Great few days of running. I did 12mi. on Saturday (training by heart rate) in just a hair over 2hrs (2:00:15). Tonight, I had my best run - ever......6.95mi. at a 9:07/mi. pace. I'm also gonna hit 130mi. in August. That'll be my largest volume, ever.
I did a workout I found on-line today - called the Spartan work out. Holy crap. Kicked my big a$$. Its a full body, 60 sec, rest 15 move to next work out you do three times. I made it twice. Its funny when you think your in shape and find out your really not. My shoulders are screaming right now, hoping I didn't hose them up to bad. Felt a pop when I got a bit aggressive on some push ups with it. Had to back off and that's why I didn't do the third set. I partially tore my left bicep head 8 years ago doing Marine Corps martial arts drills and never had surgery and if I am not careful, it tells me. I am scared to hell of the recovery and have opted out for now...one of these days.
After completing my half Ironman I am now working on a new plan to really up my training. I just returned from Louisville watching 4 of my friends compete the full 140.6 Ironman race yesterday! What an experience it is just to watch and be at the finish line to see all the Ironman cross the finishline. Because of that I will be participating/competing at next years Louisville Ironman in August!
That's cool, Ferg. Are you planning on racing.....or just finishing? If you're racing, what time will you be shooting for?
Well after seeing the course and watching athletes that are in much better shape then I am struggle on this course I am hoping to be able to complete it around 13 hours. That will be a stretch but just have to put in the time between now and then!
Just returned from a 42 minute slow jog. My goal for the night was 40 minutes. Once I hit the 40 minute mark I started to make a goal of 60 minutes. However, I felt my groin tightening up so I just slowed down and cruised home. I only ran about 3.5-4 miles at a slow pace but it was a good run.
They are! Love Newton's! I have been running in them for awhile now and they are awesome! I just got the new, soon to be released Newton trail shoes and they are pretty cool too.
I have not been here in a long time. I hope you guy's are doing well! I intend to get active in this forum again. Exercise and Nutrition are big parts of my life. I am an every day exerciser. Three days a week with body resistance and weights and four days a week an hour at a time on a mountain bike in a trainer. I try hard to keep my diet clean and for the most part am very disciplined. I am going to look forward to reading through all of the post's on this topic later. I have to get back to work. I look forward to catching up with you guy's!
I've been wanting to try them for sometime, and now that they are making a trail shoe, I might have to get them a try.
Wishing you the best with this! My old personal trainer did her first last year and is doing another with her girlfriend this November. That's dedication, my friend! You'll do great!
Never dreamed I'd say this 5 months ago.......but, I'm really liking running. It's kinda like sex. You don't have to be really good at it...........to enjoy it. Did my 3rd run (of 5) this week, tonight. My shortest run.....at 6.83mi.. I'll get in one more interm. run (tomorrow) and a long run, Saturday. Goal is to hit 40miles, this week.
Wow Jeff, you are kicking it pretty good. When the time comes, the workout plan I intend to use for my marathon hits a high mileage mark at 40. Granted half of them are in one day that week, but still. 40 miles a week is a lot. I get real antsy if I miss a couple days of running.
I'm gonna do 7+, today.....and somewhere around 11-12, tomorrow (JUST enough to hit 40....lol). That won't become a habit, I assure you. 30-35mpw is hard enough.
