Ok...Never said you didn't, but I'm glad you do. Just make sure you keep those winds and thermals in your favor.

Oh, and don't fall into the trap of believing that the deer know what a "thermal wind tunnel is"...because they don't, lol. Good luck this year!!!

I scouted here yesterday. The forest looking icon is about a 10 acre hell thicket. I would be a big old buck beds in there. A small stream runs right through the ravine and it is a straight nightmare of thorns and tangled mess. Found some good sized tracks to the southwest of it. Waiting on a west to try and slip in and catch him coming into the white oaks at the top of the hills. At least that is what I envision! Probably will be a 72 inch buck. Lol![IMG]

I don't believe I ever said that they did. They DO know areas to best wind check doe...just like they know what plants can make them ill and don't eat it.
Good luck to you as well!..lol

I’ve found them but you’re right it’s not easy being they choose spots away from where we go. I used to spot them in their beds when my eyes were better. My eyes have gone to hell in a hand basket. Can never tell if it’s an oak sapling blowing in the wind or a 100” main beam with a lot of stickers

I hunt a coolie with a river in the bottom and every buck I've seen walk past my stand except spikes buttons and baby's walk the top 1/3 of the hillside. Not saying it's natures law these are wild animals and they have the ability to change route at any moment., but that's just my property. I have some friends that hunt just a couple miles away that swear all the deer they see follow the river in the bottom. So it's really hard to say. I say the deer bed wherever they feel safe. I understand deer are smart animals but I really think we really overthink it a lot of the time.

I had no clue where last year's buck was bedding. I did know that his core revolved around an old ridge top clear cut. So I hung a camera on a high terrain edge looking into a white oak flat, just off the clear cut.

The plan was to check the camera every four or five day's, and move in as soon the buck made his transition to the acorns. My 3rd card pull revealed that he had made the transition, and from what direction and how he was entering the oak flat...which revealed the general location of his bedding. That bit of information proved to to enough.

We could turn this into a buck bed thread, lol.

I never hunted this buck last year with the bow, only hunted him with the camera's...maybe this year will be his year. I've found that locating a bucks core, figuring it out and knowing I could kill him if I wanted, is good enough as I get older.

I have no idea who this bed belong to...either or...didn't put enough time studying this location to find out which buck was using it. Never seems to be enough time, maybe this year. 20180912_165338.jpg

GET YOUR BUCK SLAYING CARCASS OUT OF MY RIVER BOTTOM!

Seriously though, that vegetation looks a lot like a river bottom swamp bedding area I was hunting this past season. Its a good thing I live in a different state or I would really think you had found my public land spot. Should be a good spot.

I missed him (barely clipped him, lol) my first hunt of the year last year...he did exactly what he was supposed to do. I drew my bow to early, which caused a string of unfortunate events to unfold.

His bed was worn out, and absolutely NOT wind specific. He was bedding there like clockwork.

I thought maybe I was missing something and I didn't know what I was looking for. They make it seem like it is as easy as finding an oak tree on a property. I wondered what I was doing wrong because I have jumped deer while walking a property and I eventually go back to that same spot again and not see deer there. I have also found beds and never see a deer go back to that bed. Good to know I am not the only one that doesn't consistently find buck bedding areas.
