I sit here and read all these threads about hunts, deer seen, killed etc.... And I sit here and wait... and wait.... and wait... .and wait some more lol. From about this time to October 16th really drives me nuts. Everything is done and ready to go. Just keep shooting my bow watching minutes tick off the clock and reading you lucky dogs posts :hater::violin::cry: Is NY the last state to open for bow? I'm considering moving.

That must suck big time. Sucks to be you. :D However, when October 16th finally rolls around...good luck to you!

I hear ya NY , these couple weeks do suck - but at least grouse and turkey are open now - that keeps me a little busy.

We are probably the worst state to live in if you are a bowhunter.........think about the guys that don't have vacation time to use and only get to hunt weekends. They MAYBE get to hunt 6-8 days a YEAR with a bow.

Some states have been hunting longer already then we will get to hunt all year.

This state really is a joke for hunters in general but for bowhunters it's about as bad as it gets.

I really can't think of one single decision the DEC has made that was a good one.

    Think about it.

Our state starts the latest........giving us the shortest (or one of) seasons in the country.

Our gun season is during the rut.

Our gun season is 3 weeks long followed by a week of ML.

Every hunter can kill 2 bucks a year (bow+gun).

Every hunter can kill 4-5 deer a year if they get that second doe tag.

Our resident license fees are now $100 to hunt and fish.

That all adds up to about 50-70 million dollars a year going to the state and what do we get back for that??

    A terrible deer herd.
    A short bow season.
Guns blazing in the midst of the rut.
Marathon gun season full of drives to kill every last deer.
Liberal tags and increased license fees to encourage reckless shooting.

Great show they are running here. It's hard to imagine that a group of people could get EVERY decision wrong when they are supposedly the "specialists".

Great state if you want to drink a few beers with 8-10 other guys, throw on some orange and go walk side by side through the trees pushing every living creature to an awaiting gauntlet of slugs.

Get together and start both a support group and then find a legislator with an open ear and start pushing for change.

WV opens late too, usually the same weekend as NY. Stupid. I feel like ALL states should be open by the start of Oct at the latest. Doesn't make any sense to me.

Yeah that would certainly be frustrating. Looks like the weather this week isn't going to be too great here in PA (not sure about NY), so you won't be missing as much:poke:

Gun season during the rut would bother me more than the late start.

Mass. isnt anything great either we start the 18th... their backwards on giving out their doe permits they go only by check station numbers and dont go out in the woods to see for themselves. In the area i live the zone that is over run with doe it is the hardest to draw a doe tag for!! i could go on and on but some years its hard to get excited for the season to start. I went to Illinois last year during the rut and man did that ruin me, nothing around here with ever compare
