It's all a case by case basis. No two people, deer or hunting spots can be compared.

I could care less. I hunt with a bow. I have fun. It took me 3 years of gun hunting before I killed a deer. That measly 3 pt is a trophy. It took me 3 years of bowhunting to kill a deer. That average 7 point is a trophy. Heck I'll say it now......every deer I've ever killed is a trophy yet I don't have a single deer mounted on my wall.

I suck as a gun hunter, I hunted Minnesota and Wisconsin on and off for close to 20 years never have shot and antlered buck. I simply had bad luck and lots of learning to do. Since I started bow hunting I have never shot anything smaller than a 3 year old 8 pointer, with the exception of a bonus tag bully doe I took out. Archery seems better suited to how I learned to hunt, seems easier than gun hunting.

I consider any animal taken, regardless of weapon, to be a trophy....

Don't get me wrong I take great pride in taking and preparing the meals a deer provides. I get hungry watching does, I do a tobacco ceremony when I track the deer I shot.

I think every animal taken with a bow is something to be extremely proud of. However there not all trophys for me. A "trophy" for me is a big buck.

I am proud of them all. But, they are definitely not all trophies to me. Some are just another deer that needs thinned out.

Switch up to traditional. The satisfaction and accomplishment you feel when you get something is nothing close to when I hunted with a compound 19 years ago.

What about slingshot? Are they all trophies if taken by slingshot?

Any deer with a slingshot or a spear or knife is a battle won and a trophy. Have to consider a roped and branded deer a trophy as well:D

I did buy an old indian archery wooden long bow, would that be considered traditional enough?

Can't really speak to this as I only have 2 years of bowhunting under my belt and only one doe. Last year was my first year And I got a doe... It was a trophy in my book.

The first buck I take will be a trophy.

After that.. It will be close. I hunt and have access to my girlfriends parents 56 acres. I have had great deer on cam the first two years I've hunted it... But it's 56 acres. Not much to work with.

It does not take much I hunt on 20 acres and see 12-15 deer a sit. The deer will come if the conditions are right.

I'm proud of every deer I take regardless of weapon but I don't consider every deer taken with a bow a trophy. A trophy to me is a 4.5+ year old buck or a deer that I specifically target, which is generally a 4.5+ year old buck (I do have a doe that I'm targeting during the late bow season and I would consider her a trophy). If I'm lucky enough to take a trophy deer, I don't consider it any more special, at all, if I take it with a bow vs. a rifle.

I'm pretty sure I didn't see 15 deer all year while bowhunting.

You do what you want but if I'm doing the traditional thing I'm doing it traditional. To me that's the point of traditional.

As I mentioned in another post. You may not consider every deer a trophy, but someone may. No, I don't parade around with a doe, but I'm sure proud of killing that deer cleanly and quickly. As for bucks, I won't shoot a buck unless I consider it a trophy. Now, my definition of a trophy here in PA is a buck in the 120" range or better, which is very doable. I've eaten my share of tag soup with this mindset, but success is bittersweet when it happens. But thats just me.

Now the next guy may consider any buck with a bow a trophy for him. Thats awesome and that is exactly why we all do this. I don't look down on anyone for their definition of a trophy. Well, except for you midwest guys... you're just all spoiled flatland brats. :)
