    Well, I did yesterday.:busted: :bash:

My mower engine took a dump on me yesterday, majorly. To rebuild it with labor costs is well over $1900-2000. Too much time involved...and all that for a still heavily used motor.

The 23 hp kawasaki I need can be bought online for $1650 plus shipping, but here is the catch....John Deere was nice enough to change the crankshaft on it JUST enough to where a replacement can be bought ONLY through John Deere. Their price? $2720 + tax, and that's if I install it myself.

I could junk my mower and buy a different one, but that would cost more for a still used mower...with a new motor, my mower would practically be born again as a brand new mower atleast.

Hard to finish booking things for a trip to alaska in 2 months when $3k oh ****s pop up, but such is life. Wish me luck, lol.

Just last week I was boasting how well it was doing and all I needed was 3 more summers before I called it quits, geesh crow tastes nasty.

You think that's bad..........wait till you buy a house. :d

In the last 12 months, I've come across about 15k worth of those types of things. Pretty soon I'm hoping to run out of expensive things to replace and then I'll get to spend another 15k on projects that I actually want to do. :bash:

That sucks brother! I guess I don't feel so bad when I have to shell out 5 beans for a new fuel pump in my ZR2 Blazer that just went out last week, still sucks for both of us!

Certainly does suck...but like Matt said, it's certainly the way things go it seems. I've spent most of my free time entirely fixing a major problem left by the previous homeowner...sinking money and labor constantly was certainly unexpected...most things in life are:D Good luck, though, and I'm sure you will pull through it.

It's the green paint brother! That's the expensive part! I had to get a voltage regulator for my JD and it was $148 for a little VR and then I had to remove the dash and steering wheel to get to the mount to replace it. The alternator through JD is $304 but I can get the same part through an alternator shop for $104. I know your pain and feel for you.

Sorry about the lawn mower. Can you put a Kohler motor on it. Very good motors.

No. I have water drainage/grade problems. Have to dig out to the footer, install a french drain, backfill (all of this dirt moving by hand mind you), regrade, reinstalling new spouting drains, pulled a paver patio up, knock down two concrete walls, break up a poured walk, and then taking our front end loader to regrade and reinstall drain lines....yep my paver patios are the least of my worries
