On our 55 acres in one hunting area I have a treestand on the north and south side of the trail so it would be easier to deal with the wind. On the north side there's this tree I put a strsp on stand in and it's a perfect spot. It's got great shooting lanes, cover, and it's the perfect distance from the trail....the tree itself isn't so perfect. It's a strong tree but the the top at one point in time was blown out of it so it makes it a little easier to be moved around, and the thing is cover from top to bottom in limbs all around it. I like it because the treestand has plenty of cover in it but the thing is, you make any sudden movements then the dang limbs loaded with leaves start shaking. I'm not taking the treestand down. I've practiced out of it with my bow and if i go steady the limbs don't move, but it's gonna take plenty of practice. Just wondering if anyone else has problems with leave loaded limbs moving when you're in the stand?
I like the bases of big trees on stalking days.I sit there and the ground moves and growns, under arse...lol If its too windy I stay on Mother Earth....getting older and all....lol
I remember a long time ago, when I was young and dumb, I was hunting on our property here. It was windy that day, actually, extremely windy. I remember sitting in my stand and every gust would make me want to turn and hang onto the tree. There were limbs coming down all over the place. Of course, the deer didn't budge. Later, after I got back to the truck and started making my way out of the woods, I had to take a couple of detours around trees that fell across the road. Got home to my dad raising heck with me because I was out hunting in 60mph winds! I didn't realize it was THAT windy! These days, if its gusting and windy as heck, I usually stay on the ground. If stuff starts coming out of the trees above me, I hunt from my couch. It not worth going out when its that unsafe.
