Been hard at it the last few days. Called in some jakes the first day. Heard quite a bit of gobbling that day, but most of the birds seemed pretty henned up. I did get a good tom in to about 50 yards, but he was swept away by a real girl. So yesterday, I was hard at it again. I checked a local roosting spot at daylight, but didn't hear anything on the limb. I didn't stay long after light and figured I would try to find a bird that was willing to talk. I worked my way along a creek bottom and setup to call. I made one calling sequence and waited. For some reason, I felt like something was sneaking in on me to my right. I was right! There, not more than 40 yards away, stood a bobcat! He was standing, watching intently, looking for the turkey that just made the calls. What's more interesting, this cat circled me and snuck above me to get a better vantage point. Talk about cool. After I made sure where he was again, I left out a few clucks and purrs, to see if I could get him any closer, all the while, trying to fumble through my vest to get my phone to try to get some footage of him. He hung around for a good 20 minutes, popping up here and there. I think he and I both thought better of it. I quit calling when he got behind me again and he just vanished. I didn't stick around long. Thats all I need, a bobcat jumping me from behind. LOL Just a really cool experience with an animal you don't get to see, that close for that long very often.
That is awesome Muzzy. I would love to see a kitty in the woods. Their populations are pretty thin up here though.
Fitz, I"m not sure, but I think there is a family of them in this particular area. I see them pretty regularly here. I wasn't overly surprised to see it show up to my calling. I just wished I could have gotten some pics of him. Below is a pic of a rather large looking cat I got on a trail camera a few years ago.
