Now it is happening even in Texas, where football is more of a religion than sport. Read this story about a parent who filed a bullying complaint against the rival team's coach. North Texas parent alleges bullying in complaint over outcome of 91-0 football game | Star Tribune
He took the starters out early in the game. He ran the ball. The clock never stopped after halftime. They pretty much tried everything they could do besides just kneeling the ball every play. Like I said, butthurt parents are everywhere.
When your second and third strings are still decimating the opponent, what are you supposed to do, put in the cheerleaders? I don't call it running up the score. The coach was not aware of a rule that would let the game end by mutual agreement between the coaches and evidently the ref's were not aware either. This parent evidently had the bubble containing aspirations for his kid's professional career popped and could not take it.
The coach did everything possible not to run up the score. These are kids that want to play so let them play, you can't ask your defensive players to go easy what the hell does that teach. Being a coach I get crap from some parents when the score is getting out of hand, I just tell them I'm taking what they are giving me nothing more. They still get pissie, like Hooker said
Some people need to just realize their kid isn't a all star when it comes to sports. I blame it all on what kinda started when I was still playing sports, everyone had to participate. What does that show a kid besides that there's no need to work to get anything, just wait it will be giving to you. A little disappointment never hurt anybody.
If the other team doesn't want to lose like that again, they need to work hard and get better. Simple as that. Starters out after 21 plays and running the ball with no timeouts after halftime isn't bullying or even intentionally running up the score. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk www.skyangler.com
I have a feeling that in a game like this, working hard had nothing to do with it, this was probably just a pure talent. A huge gaping gap in talent.
I agree with a huge gap in talent but there's ways to limit the ridiculous score even against the 2nd and 3rd strings. I didn't say they'd win the next game but maybe walk away with a little more pride. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk www.skyangler.com
I understand not wanting to run the score up on another team, but so what if it happens. My junior year we got blown out by a team 50 to nothing at halftime. Guess what, we got better and my senior season we beat them 63-6 at halftime. Just because you get your azz handed to you one day, doesn't mean you can't grow as a team and get better. Getting beat like that can be just as big of a teaching moment as winning a game. From my experience there's way better sportsmanship today than when I was playing sports. The score really doesn't have much to do with sportsmanship, its how the players acted during the game, and from what I read, they displayed very good sportsmanship.
In high school, we wrestled a team once and pinned all but two of their wrestlers, who we beat in major decisions. The following week we wrestled the state championship team and were taught a bit of humility. You teach and expect your student athletes to do their best but not rub it in your opponents faces. After that, it's all up to the opponent.
West Genesee lacrosse beat us like a drum in high school (best HS lacrosse team in nation). I remember the bus ride there was like driving to your death. The bus ride home after getting beatdown 24-2 was fun too. However nobody blew sunshine up our butts and I didn't need a sippy cup when I got home. In fact I would put the flood lights on in the backyard that night and shoot/practice ground balls until I couldn't feel my hands anymore.
If your second team is in that early of the game and their still scoring with ease then get over it. If you don't want the other team to score then stop them from scoring. Don't blame their coach because have better athletes. I would never my kids not try hard because we are already winning. You go 100% on every play or you don't play. Some poor parent got their feeling hurt watching their kids football team get man handled. Welcome to sports!! "Live Life at Full Draw"
