european mount jaw removal???

    im doing my own whitetail european mount, and idk how to remove the bottom jaw. i tried to cut the jaw meat, and then try to open the mouth as far as i could, but it feels like im gonna break something......any suggestions?

    part of the jaw runs up inside the skull and is attached just down and to the side of the antler burs. If you move the jaw you will see the meat move where it is attached. A long skinny knife can be slipped in and help cut some of the tendons that hold it together. Its a pain but can be done. OR just do what Tee jay said :D

    Run your knife up in there the whole way around the bone several times, work it & pull. Cut a little more until it pulls free.

    Exactly, it is also easier to do if you have boiled it a bit, softens things up a bit.

    That's about it. This is how mine looks when finished. It usually takes me about 4 hours from start to finish.

    My neighbor does them like that, and my taxi does his own like that but the nose bones are still attached. I agree, neat!!
