I clean them off with a knife as much as possible, boil until the meat looks cooked, then use a power washer to clean them off. I use straight hydrogen peroxide to whiten them. I submerge the skull in the peroxide up to around the top of the eye sockets. I then take paper towels and wrap them around the rest of the skull that isn't submerged. It will draw the peroxide up and whiten the top of the skull without the risk of getting on the antlers. I don't have any pics right now. I'll post some later. I have also used peroxide paste before and had equally good results.

Looks Like you nailed it. I like to leave them like that or I will by a skull kit from an online taxidermist supply and whiten the skull. Just dont use spray paint tried it once and it came out like crap.

When you say peroxide, do you mean the over the counter stuff?

I've only done 2, but like him or hate him, I used and still do Rancid's method. He has two different threads on the forums for them. Seems to be the most common way.

I bring(or try to) the pot up to boil them reduce and simmer for a few hours. Scrape and pluck the. Return to simmer with a bit of dawn, them scrape again.

Once most has loosened up I take it to the car wash and spend about $5 spraying it. Really focus on the nasal and brain cavities. Once done there I either put it back in te pot to loosen up the remainder of meat or start pushing wire through the tendon ports or whatever you call them.

Whiten with peroxide and oxy clean.

Yes sir. It's all that I've ever used. Definitely don't use bleach. The peroxide makes it just as white but doesn't damage the skull.

I always add oxy clean to the water. Whitens the skull and gels the meat. I can do a head start to finish in about an hour and a half with this method.

Flesh. Boil. Flesh again if necessary. Boil. Poke loose extra. Whiten as needed.

However, I have an awesome shop nearby that I'm having do two of mine this year. He uses beetles for cleaning. Will be having a double fence post mount done.

Not to hijack here but how fragile is the skull exactly....the carwash/pressure wash way seems to me like it could do some damage to the skull....right?....wrong?.....I love euros but have never attempted one and really wouldnt want to mess it up

Most of the skull is pretty durable. The most fragile part is the nose and the cartilage in it. When you pressure wash it, be very touch and go around that area. Also be careful not to take color off the antlers when you are pressure washing.

The skull is pretty durable, the most fragile parts as mentioned above are the nasal cavities. The first one above I left the center divider intact. The bottom one I completely removed.

As for the pressure washer part, I stick it full force down the nose, in the brain cavity in each of the muscle connector ports. I've never had it fracture any part of it, never had the antlers lighten due to power washing either. Did have a bit of lightening where suds from the peroxide and oxy clean touched on the first one. But it's the back side so not real noticeable.

I've got this skull I found in the swamp a few years ago. My dad had it for a while and I got tired of him not doing anything with it. If I boil it now, being older, will it damage it?

Pricey unfortunately. $120. I get a discount, though, since I know the guy from my in-laws.

In the end, getting both skulls done and the mount will cost about the same as a shoulder mount.

How much Oxy clean do you use? Does it come in individual single use size or is it in a bottle were you measure out each use? Sorry, have never used that stuff before.

My process is skin, boil, scrape, boil, pressure wash and paint. I think a pure white skull looks the best, but a lot of people disagree with me. In the future I am going to tink around with the painting. Do something like a black skull and white teeth and white eyes, or a white skull with a PSE logo on it.

Here is my first archery buck. I made the mount myself and it is held on there with some leather string. Quick, easy and universal setup.

Here's the nasal passage I was referring to.

And another thing I learned. The ear canals will pop/break out as well. Helps with getting the brain cavity lining out
