What all is everyone using and what should I be using now with it being pre-rut in Northeastern IL?

Special Golden estrus on the boots and a little around the stand, a little grunting, a little (sometimes a lot) of rattling. My brother rattled in a nice 8 point a few days ago. He came in from about a 100 yards out on a trot! There are a few smaller bucks in the area and there were quite a few does around that evening (a cold front was coming in so they were moving) and the 8 point probably thought the smaller bucks were moving in on his territory.

I'm using scent from a small privately owned scent company called Timber Valley scent. Just got a bottle of estrus bottled that day yesterday.

I'm gonna give Tink's #1 a try today and picked up a MAD grunt call last night. I'll give it a shot and see what happens.

I quit using that stuff, the best I ever used was Rickard's Love Potion #9. Now that they don't make it I quit using it and focus on travel corridors and fence lines that bucks travel looking for does. From my experience you can hold deer when coming through with estrus or scare the heck out of them. my worst experiences were with Tink's and Code Blue Gel.

Race you got a point. A doe may be repeled by the estrous scent and turn and avoid it, taking the buck with her. I've seen it happen. Abuck that is unattached may find the scent alluring. Don't use it if you want to kill a doe or if the bucks are seriously chasing the does!
