I've been for around ten years now and would like to start self filming my hunts... I was wondering if anyone has used the epic cameras and how well they work and any tips or tricks for filming would be greatly appreciated thanks!!!

The entire Bowhunt or Die team uses them for the second camera angle shots. I love mine!

I have an Epic HD cam for a second shot angle. It takes very good video. You cannot zoom in with this camera so your kill shots will be far off. If you are going to use it for filming hunts, be mindful of the Blue light that is lit on front of the camera when it is recording. It will be facing the deer and they may see it if you are using it to record the kill.

I would recomend if you are looking to record the hunt and have an epic cam, buy a smaller cheap hd video camcorder, not a go pro. Both those cameras are designed to be second angle cameras.

The nice thing about the new Epics is the wireless remote that's a single click to start recording. One remote can actually trigger multiple cams if you want. Since you typically don't have a second angle cam running the entire hunt this makes it easier to turn on without having to make too much movement and it's just easy.

Well that's definitely a plus... I know it's going to take some getting used to I'm probably going to have a lot of mess ups to begin with but it's something I want to learn now that I have a child on the way so I can be better at all this filming (hopefully lol) by the time they get old enough to hunt and shoot on their own.

The cool part about the second angle is capturing the emotions and facial expressions. I'm sure once your kid(s) are in the woods your going to want to capture that for sure. Congrats by the way!

When you say second angle cameras, you mean the cameras that are facing directly at the hunter?

Typically but you can use it for any interesting angle. With the new Epic Hd camera you can use the remote up to 100 feet away so if your hunting over a trail or pinch point you can put it on the ground facing the trail for a great view. You can also use up to 30 cameras with 1 single remote so if you have multiple cameras you can activate several at once!

Can you watch them live or does it just record to an SD card?

No you can not see what it is recording and you don't have any zoom functions and it doesn't do a very good job picking up the sound. That's why they are great for sefond angles but not a primary camera.
