I am looking to get a better camera to film hunt and was wonder what you would recommend. I will mostly be self filming but May film a friend or two and they may film me. What camera would you recommend. I am thinking either the Canon Vixia HFR500 or the Nikon D3100. What would u guys recommend? I just see more possibilities with a DSLR camera but there is the challenge of self filming.

I'd look at the HF R52 if I was going to buy a sub $500 camera.

I have a DSLR (Rebel T3i) I just picked up...now I never expect or plan on filming my hunts, but now that I own it I really don't think I will. You inherit the increased possibility of losing a deer every now and then due to filming, but the DSLR I can already tell would be that much more challenging.....now the Rebel T5i with the autofocusing ability in video mode would assist a lot!

as stated above, if you are going to self film you are not going to want the D3100, there is no auto focus. if you will be filming others then it may work well, but i have owned the D3100 just for photos and have messed with the filming for turkey hunts of my buddies. the Nikon DSLRs can be pretty noisy as well.
