Well you can still only have a certain amount on you, so it is regulated. And if you are caught, they put you in counseling instead of jail, which many have attributed to the decline in drug abuse.
The person that accidentally shot my daughter's dance coach (dance coach husband) had thc in his system. He also had alcohol, but he wasn't drunk. Obviously, neither helped him make a rational choice to not shoot at sounds in his house in the dark. Me being against pot is more along the lines of it isn't good for the country. We have enough issues with alcohol now. Pot has a lingering effect on ones abilities to make good life choices. That's where I have issues with it. I don't think more uninspired people in this country is a good thing. I think we have enough of those. I also see it quite ironic how we are trying to criminalize cigarettes and 32 oz soda but pot is ok. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk
Or they just don't mess with it at all and it looks good on the books. In reality, there may be a majority of the populas hooked. We really don't know. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk
How about we decriminalize all drugs but drug related hospital visits are not covered by insurance. All drug users have to be sterilized if they show up at a hospital with drug related problems. If they have children they are permanently removed from the home, and they are not permitted to operate any motor vehicle.
The way I understand this scenario is that a man shot your daughters dance coach because they were in his house... They shouldn't have been intruding in the first place. Can't blame that on marijuana. Also.... Weed affects everyone differently. You may hit the joint and become uninspired while it could make the next guy motivated as all get out. The topic will always be a back and forth battle... I see where people are coming from who are against it, but I just have different opinions. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Then, you have to also deal with those who no longer can function and earn a living. The crime rate increases by them robbing and stealing to get money for their fixes. So, do we reinstate the death penalty to not penalize law abiding citizens by making them pay to have the doper locked up?
I haven't smoked any weed since grad school in the 70's. I still like my beer. For those of you who haven't used weed, it is NOT equivalent to alcohol. I can go to our favorite bar and order a schooner (22 oz.) and spend a couple hours drinking it with no effect. On the other hand, a couple tokes on a joint, and you are stoned - right now. A couple cold beers on a hot day - very refreshing. A couple tokes on a joint on a hot day? Not refreshing, but you will be stoned. What about the harder stuff? I've never tried anything beyond weed. But people I have talked with, and my clients, (I'm a criminal defense attorney) tell me there's a rush, not like drinking adult beverages. Is the War On Drugs working? Well, no, not from my perspective. Should we legalize drugs just because "everybody's" doing it? I don't think that argument makes sense. I think the real question would be whether more people would use drugs, particularly the harder stuff, if it were legal. I can't answer that, but I don't think use would increase very much. My wife tells me that use among high-schoolers is pretty common. And they seem to know where to get the high-powered stuff if they want it. Most of them just stick to weed. But I'm not impressed by the suggestion that we use Portugal as a model, since it seems to work there, maybe. A corollary to that would be to propose we agree to a gun ban here because it works in Japan.
The man shot his wife. In their house, they were married. It was the middle of the night and she got up to do something. She was really hard of hearing and he had really bad eye sight. He supposedly heard a noise and reached over to her side of the bed and felt a pillow and assumed she was in the bed. He got up, saw a figure and shot. Killed his wife. As gun owners, we all know he made some really bad decisions. It may or may not have anything to do with him being a pothead. I've chosen to stay away from the stuff because what I have seen throughout my life associated with it. I do drink beer, way more than I should. I know my way of thinking isn't a popular one today and I'm ok with that. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk
Only read the first 3 pages or so. This kind of reminds me of a episode of The Wire where the mayor or Commissioner was allowing gangs to sell drugs in the vacant areas of the city with little interference, but imposed most strict penalties if found with the same drugs in off limit areas. Decriminalizing would certainly decrease the amount of recorded drug related crimes, but I think there would be other repercussions. I don't think there is any be all end all way of dealing with the drug problems facing the country, it's really just which way the politicians want to play the numbers (arrests etc.) in their favor. I can't tell you how many robberies we have in my county that are a result of drug purchases. Many of you would also be astounded at the amount of illegal/stolen guns we confiscate as a result of search warrants at drug houses. Any many of those drug houses are guys "just selling weed", or "just buying weed".
When I was a kid, about 9, my father was driving down a road, doing about 45mph. A car pulled out in front of him, and my dad t-boned the vehicle in the passenger door. My dad was driving an older jeep with an extremely heavy steel bumper. It pushed the guys passenger door almost all the way in to the drivers seat. It laid my dad up for a while. I believe he had a concussion and he smashed his knee caps off the dash which made him unable to get around for a good while. Why did the guy pull out in front of him? The officers said the dude was high as a kite and reeked of pot. You know as well as I do that that situation has been played out thousands of times with far worse results. Don't try to tell me that weed has never killed anybody.
I think that's my issue with pot- you can't use it and NOT feel the effects, or NOT be impaired, from what I understand. Most guys can go out and have a couple beers and not be the slightest bit impaired.
I'm all for the government regulating what you put in your body if it's going to keep worthless tweakers from becoming mainstream in society. I'd rather be around someone who is drunk than someone who is tweaking on meth and may lose their mind at any given second
I was thinking more along the lines of consuming too much pot to cause the death. Sure people have gotten high, gotten in a car and killed people, you hear it happening sometimes. It is still FAR safer than someone drinking and driving. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Most of the time guys that smoke weed also drink at the same time. So now you pull over guys who are high and partially drunk.
I remember a time when people said beer was "way far safer than hard liquor". Incapacitated is incapacitated no matter what the drug is.
