Been kicking the idea around with my wife about selling the ranch and moving to a lake place. Actually it was more her idea than mine, hell I have a tree picked out in the pasture that I want my ashes spread around. I have actually came around and thought about it and it really isn't a bad idea. I did say I won't consider it till I shoot one more big buck. I never did define what I considered a big buck, just because I shoot a buck doesn't mean it is a big buck. Then again if I shoot a 150" buck she is going to decide it is a big buck.

Hell of it is for what a place on a lake costs on a nice lake we could buy a house in the carribian, if not for grand kids in the future we would move there in a heartbeat.

Has to be within an hour and a half of the Minneapolis Airport, I would say north or west of where I live now probably in the general St. Cloud area. My son has become a city mouse and will live there after he graduates so we will want to be closer to Rice and the daughter.

How could you leave the farm to live on a lake?! Never in a million years!

Well the wife can no longer ride competitive any longer so no need to keep the horses, no horses no need to live on a farm. My daughter has her own farm so there is no need to keep the farm so grandkids can have animals. I am starting to think I am getting too old to cut and split wood and do farm stuff. When my wife first brought it up it was a hard no from me, like I said I am starting to think it is not a terrible idea. Hell I could do outfitted hunts for what I spend on deer feed and food plots and I only hunt 1 week out of the year so it is no big deal.

Go for it, life is an adventure.

I'm thinking about selling all my stuff, buying a nice RV and a Hellcat and cruising around the US and Canada living like a nomad for a year or three....or four. It'd be an early retirement for me while I'm still young enough to enjoy it. Go to all 50 states, hunt as many as possible and then go from there.

Shame your daughter couldn't have bought your farm...that would have made it easier. IMO

Nope they have their farm and her husbands families farm down the road that they will be buying down the road, plus the kids both have ag science degrees where they live is ag country vs the sand plaine where we live. We just got back from Sunday dinner up there they are in a good place.

lake life is where it's at...if presented the choice between living on a full power sport lake with decent fishing and owning 40 decent acres to hunt vs. living on/managing a farm w/ prime whitetail hunting I'd take the lake every single time.

Every day you live on a lake is a mini vacation.

Whatever happens, best of luck to ya! As long as you're not too far away from the woods so you can still hunt, kinda hard to argue a little lifestyle change. Especially if it makes the other half happy. Just make sure you work into the deal you still have hunting rights on your farm!

Going to go look at a house this afternoon on Terra Ceia Island. Beautiful place no tourists no traffic. I could live there in a heartbeat.

Well Germ it is on a canal that feeds to the gulf not right on the Gulf so nothing fancy. We will see while my wife and I say we are ready to move here I think potential grandkids may keep us in Minnesota we will see what we think after looking at the place. It is interesting to get a place on a nice lake in Minnesota costs about the same or a little more than a place close to the water in Florida. The older I get the more I hate winter.

I did just that and when I'm out and about I hibank for gold. It pays for the gas and food and last year there was plenty left so I'm saving it for my first ever elk hunt.
