Well we had a guy call out today on the night team. That will force one of us to stay over and cover his shift until 9pm tonight. SO, I chose myself to stay. I am not making any of my guys stay over. It is my job to help my people in every aspect of their lives, not just work. Lets just say that the guy that called out is not a very popular guy right now.

Employees that call out on Superbowl Sunday=?????

    Fire them ...plain and simple

unless of course something serious happened and they could prove it .... I hate to admit this but I never worked a deer hunting opener ... I just called in sick, or pulled my back out...I may even have killed someone off .. I can't remember :D

If they would have found out, they would have been right to fire me ..... today it take's a whole lotta paperwork to fire someone, tho

And to top it off, the guy had been granted leave for tomorrow.

It's a case by case basis. If he is otherwise a good employee and this is his first offense, you give him a couple days off unpaid. If this guy is a bend the rules type of guy and has pulled this type of stuff before....... fire him.

Gee whiz. You guys are taking this a little crazy. You got one guy calling for his job even though he admits he's done the same. Another guy calling for a two day suspension for the first offense! Wow! The guy called in. Big deal. It sucks for Brett because he has to cover the guys shift. If this is a union job then it is more than likely subject to the attendance points system. If its not then most jobs don't require medical documentation until after the 3rd consecutive missed day.

There is nothing I can do. He called in sick. However, he will receive a lot of negative peer interactions from members of my team. Not cool and to be honest, it just illuminates his already apparent "true colors". He left work at 10pm last night looking just fine and called in three hours later. The gig is up.

You can do that when you are the captain of your own ship. :) I had a trick up sleeve and utilized it for tonight. Super Bowl here we come!

Chill....? Lol, sorry, bro. I'm in a management position in the U.A.W. Meaning, I'm not in the union and all my employees are. I just wish I dealt with simple stuff like this....lol

If you have a bank of days where you can "use" them, what in the hell is wrong with that?

Sick or not. If I sign a contract that says I can use an allotment of days....who's to tell me which I can or cannot use?

Does he have "personal" days that he just didn't use? Just curious.

What about calling in the day after the Super Bowl like I just had to do? I haven't been able to sleep all night and am nauseous. I would go to work except for being nauseated is the worst! My daughter and wife have had the flu and I have avoided it until last night. I know my co-workers are gonna obviously think the brown bottle flu but it's definitely not the case.
