Hunting trip tomorrow and BOW DOESNT SHOOT! I am BRAND new to bow hunting and am not familiar with how to tune or adjust anything but pin sights. So here's my major issue, (time sensitive) I dropped my new bow off at ****'s Sporting goods yesterday to have them install some string leaches and some limb savers and a kisser button. Thats it! Got it out today to see how much quieter it was, IT WAS 2-3 TIMES LOUDER!! Narrowed down one issue causing it, (sorry for my lack of better words) but the little plastic thingy that attatches to the stabilizer that the strings clip to. That was making all kinds of noise when shooting. So i took it off, now I can't see my damn pins bc the strings are in the way. Oh, and all my shots are going left (im a rh shooter). I looked at my top cam, and its cocked to the right. So thats my problem, I have to leave for hunt in 5 hours, archery shop not open. Thanks in advance. ...BTW, if you ever drop your bow off at a "big box" hunting store and a young-pissed off kid takes it to the back to work on it, snatch that bow back and go somewhere else.
You need to have that clip on that holds the cable. Its there for a reason! You may need to buy a new one if its making more noise and you have narrowed it down to that piece. Not really sure on that. But you definitely need to have that piece on your bow.
Well Bear didn't put one on at the factory, the guy that put the leaches on threw it on there. I shot all day a few days ago without the "cable slide clip" and had incredible accuracy. Now, accuracy is gone and so is stealth.
Wow, I could go on forever but I'll save you the lecture. I'm sure you're going to get flamed enough in posts to come but this is stuff that should have been addressed months ago, not the night before your hunt. You need to educate yourself a bit on bow terminology. There is one string (that the arrow clips to) and two cables. It sounds like the piece that you are missing is the cable slider and it attaches to the cable rod, not the stabilizer. The slider and cable rod are there to keep your cables out of the way of your arrow. If your arrow is contacting the cables as it is shot it will go left (for a right hand shooter). I assure you that there was a cable slider on there when the bow left the factory. I can empathize with the kid at the shop. Nothing drives me more insane than the guy that brings a weapon in the "day before my hunt" to have stuff done to it in an emergency rush. My typical response to them is "Sorry, but a failure to plan on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part." Oops. Sorry, I wasn't going to get on my soap box. I digress. Basically, if you're an ethical hunter, you'll forgo the hunt with this bow until you can get things straightened around. It doesn't sound like it'll take much but you'll definitely have to spend some time with it. Start by putting the cable slider back on. That will get the cables out of your sight picture, straighten the lean out of your idler and stop your arrows from going left. Best of luck.
Yes, id say maybe 5 degrees to rights, arrow shoots left about 1.5 ft @ 20yds...which i can temporarily adjust my sights to compensate for, but more worried about the root of whats causing ALL these problems after being in the shop for simple work.
Listen to Kodiak (Rob). He knows what he is talking about. He is right about waiting till last minute to have your bow worked on. It is unethical imo to hunt with a bow that you dont know anything about. You need to learn your bow and what everything does on it. I have never seen a bow without a cable guide. Good luck and use your best judgment.
maybe the right thing to do is not hunt and just watch this time. I know it sucks but hey at least u'll be out in nature right?
Kodiak is dead on here!!! You've got to put the cable slide back on your bow...your arrows are still going to hit the cable on the way past as you shoot without it. And they will continue to hit them even if you move your sights...don't adjust your sights when your bow has a technical problem. Tune the technical problem and then adjust your sights. Take a target w you if you're going somewhere to hunt and always check and shoot your bow before you go out. Good luck. Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk
Rob is spot on, you're not going to account for 1.5" at 20yds, then have things good for anything past 20!!! Put a cable slide back on the bow. It's there for reason. Then you probably need to start by zeroing a pin a 20yds, do a quick walkback making sure your rest is in alignment, and BH tune it, follow this link ( http://www.archerytalk.com/vb/showthread.php?t=539460&highlight=broad+head+tuing ), it'll get you there, IF you have correctly spined arrows for your bow. If not, then you've got issues that you can't fix in one day unless you can get to a shop and get new arrows made up. Post up your set up, bow, draw-length, weight, and arrows and bh/fp weight, and arrow length, and I'll put you on a path to the right spine if you don't already have it.....
