Elk hunting advice

I am planning at hunt in 2016 for elk (wish I could go in 2015 but that wouldn't go over well with the wife if I cut the honeymoon to save for elk hunt). My current setup is a Bowtech Fuel at about 55 lb (just getting back into archery so Im working my way up to 70 lb) and 26 inch draw. Im using Beman ICS Bowhunter 500 and a 100 grain tip. I would greatly appreciate it if you guys could give me some advice on good 100 grain broadheads that would be effective against elk. Any other tips are welcome too! Thanks!

 

Stick with a good cut on contact of moderate size. That is stoutly constructed.

VPA's would be a great choice, as would Solids.

 

You're going to want a stout 2 or 3 blade, especially at lower poundage. If you can afford them, go with Solids. But if you're budget conscious, go for a G5 Montec or the NAP equivalent (can't remember model name.)

Stay away from G5 Strikers, the blades bend bad on elk ribs. I know this from personal experience.

 

Muzzy's and Slick Tricks are good heads that hold up well on elk too.

You don't want a 4 blade for elk with lower poundage. Not enough penetration.

 

I assumed by his post he would be shooting a higher poundage by 2016. I've used 4 blade Muzzys at 60 lbs and had very good success with complete pass through at 28 inch draw. If he is shooting 70 lbs by then it should be plenty.
