I use a ton of different elk calls. I use bugling bull primarily and several assorted open reed calls. I actually bugled in kevin meacham and chris ashley this year in the middle of the back country... that was with just a reed and no tube. The mossback predator call (used as a cow call) worked miracles for me this year. Two dead bulls in two days, good stuff.

Yes, and no... season ends the 31st. Left Wednesday .. shot the buck of a lifetime Saturday before lunch. Ranged him at 92 yards..dialed in at 100 and hit him well. Follow up shot missed at 110 yards by a hair... no blood? No tracks? .. tracked him down across the canyon on the next ridge where he bedded with 2 does... the rest of the does boogered out over the hill.. he was done! I glassed him up and was 100% certain that I would get this buck by the time I crossed the canyon and made it up the hill. ... busted a herd of ELK on the way up and heard all kinds of crashing and breaking of branches and brush. .. No Buck!?!? WHAT! I looked all day Saturday... could not sleep when I got back to base camp... first light went back to the valley, covered all the ridges, valleys, I looked, glassed everywhere.. I am sick about this and know I hit him hard and he is down..somewhere...
Tapped out and ruined, body is trashed and spirits down...will be hard to let him go but hope to find him at some point in the future..

I'm so sorry. Its hard when you lose an animal. It just deflates ya. Best advice I can give is learn from it and go on. Ive hunted elk since the 70's and in the early 80's I started to bow hunt elk. I had a bad experience like you had. I know bows have come a long way since my first bow, but to this day I will not shot an elk over 40 yards. Deer is a little different story. My eyes are not good enough anymore to shoot over 60 yards. Again my heart goes out to ya

92 yards with a bow?! I thought the 61 yard shot I killed my muley with was long. What kind of sight are you using? That sucks that you lost him.

    Thank you

Going back out tomorrow and going to check a few more places.. if I don't find him by Wednesday it's finished.
I know these things happen but with that said I don't pull the trigger unless I know I got him. ... pause....I got him but he is one double tough son of a gun.
    Uggg.
I hit a 15" deer target at 72 yards all day long. ... ugggggg.

Yes sir... but if memory serves me right it was 96 yards on the range finder. I set the bow for 100 and hit him hard. Slick Trick stopped on the other side but no pass through. The pics are from a junky camera so hard to expand on.
..... MR5 & a Tommy Hogg ... my tools are correct, delivery is right on.
We don't need a long shot debate on this one. Everyone has specific abilities or the lack thereof.

Congrats on your 61 yard Muley. That is hard to do and hard earned.

Who said anything about a debate?? I just stated the shot was long and asked what sight you were using.

Right on.. just putting it out there.

Update: Looked all day yesterday and today. GPS looks like a kids coloring board and I am spent. No buck. To say heart broken would be an understatement. . . It's finished.
Got to camp tonight and dropped my pack, took a short walk with bow in hand. Saw a white tail doe. Stalked her and took her pic at less than 20 yards.
Just when ya think about packing it in....deer.

    Anyway, back on topic.....

Lol, right and your results make a strong argument for "the lack thereof." In regards to the shot execution, stealthiness and sound decision making?

Come on man. Im sorry you lost the deer, but it's okay to own it... Its called humility.
