Who really has no desire to hunt them? Honestly, if I was given a free trip to a top end elk area and it was during Ohio's archery season, I wouldn't go. I'd stay home to hunt whitetail

How many seasons you hunted Ohio and you wouldn't take a free trip? Come on, all the cool kids are doing it.

I'm actually passing up my first opening morning here in Ky to head to Colorado for Elk. I'm sure it will suck though.

I hunted elk once and would love to go again. The meat is phonominal and they are huge animals. I would hunt them over deer if they were in my hunting area.

I honestly can't even begin to understand that. Elk hunting is so much more interactive. Hunting them you have to actually turn into a predator instead of a thinker who studies deer's patterns and places an ambush site where it makes the most logical sense. It is just too much fun and challenging to explain well. I don't think you are wrong. We are just on the exact opposite ends of the spectrum on this one. Deer are neat and all, but I want to hunt everything... literally. Humans included:deer:

I went on my first elk hunt last year in Alberta. I am kinda bummed I didn't plan an elk trip for this fall. I may do two elk hunts next year just to make up for it.

Whitetails are great, but I love variety.

I actually think it is more of a rush than whitetail hunting!!! Having one of those huge animals screaming at your cow calls. It don't get much better than that right there.

I will be back out west chasing them someday.

My best friend is a guide in Colorado, and I can't wait to go out there with him!

When I was told they are like giant turkeys with headgear....

I won a free fall bear hunt to New Brunswick Canada a couple years ago, I traded it to my buddy (who is also my taxi)for 2 free deer mounts :d

I would have gone if it were a spring hunt... No way am I giving up a week of deer season to chase big black garbage digging raccoons :moose:

While your phraseology (yes, that's actually a word ;) ) is quite funny and made me chuckle, THAT'S on the top of my list... I REALLY want to go bear hunting. Perhaps in a coupe years, after next year's antelope hunt.

I'd really like to go elk hunting at the right time of the year, when they were rutting and bugling. We head out there early because it's public land and after a few days they become ghosts and it's like looking for a needle in a haystack.

As it stands, I wouldn't miss the whitetail rut to go elk hunting... no way. I do enjoy going out there, breathing the mountain air, getting away from it all and enjoying the scenery since it's all before any season opens around here.

Scotty really took a beatin' on this one.

Seems like you are a lonely guy, with very few sharing your sentiments.

I gotta say, one day I would like to hunt Elk, but before that I would LOVE to try my hand at hunting sheep. A Dall Ram would be most excellent, but I think if I ever had a chance, my best shot would be for a Bighorn. It would be a one in a million opportunity regardless.

Since I hardly get to hunt whitetail, I guess I better not get picky and just stick with the deer for now.
