Might be a silly question but the only dumb questions are the ones not asked that lead to headache's.. I'm looking at two versions of the Z28 for purchase. One is a '09 with rev cams at 28.5 inch draw and the other is a '10 at 29 inch draw. I've read the Z28 ran the rev cams in 09 and they're the cats meow. I currently shoot a pse at 29in draw (wingspan 73"), but i've heard the draw on the Elites can run a lil different than other brands. Question is: What is the draw length like for Elites? Can i purchase Rev cams for the '09? Can i purchase and install rev cams on the '10?
Stewartjw, The Rev cam came out around mid 2008 and is usually referred to as 2008.5 I do believe in 2009 Elite switched to the Z cam. The specs between the 2008.5 and 2009 models were slightly different with the IBO being slower from 2009/2010 models. In theory yes you could put a rev cam on a 2009 or 2010 model but this would be an unsupported modification. If you are not worried about that then have fun. There seems to be lots of Z28's floating around and they are usually pretty available. Especially in your draw length. In regards to draw it all has to do with tuning. If you know how to spec tune a bow you should be able to get it pretty close to the correct draw length. From the charts for a 29" Dl you will need a number 3 module for the Z cam. The Z28 was a good shooting bow but I personally liked the GT500. Here is the spec sheet for the 2010 Z-28 http://www.elitearchery.com/pdf/2010/2010_Z28_Spec_Sheet_11.03.09.pdf Here is a review for the 2010 model that you might find useful. http://www.archeryhistory.com/techevaluation/EliteZ28.pdf
I had an 08.5 with Revs...one bow that I shouldn't of sold and then a 2010 with a z cam. They both speced out close on the draw length...in that I can't recall them running long. The Z is still a favorite of a lot of Elite shooter....I liked it the best until they released the 2013 Hunter. As much as I liked them I probably wouldn't buy one unless I got it for a song ...like really cheap. Can't get anything out of a Z that you couldn't get from a 13 hunter...the fit and finish is better now then they were. And you can pick a 13 Hunter up a great prices right now.
