I was teaching a group of special education 7th and 8th grade students. My principal walked in and told me. My father was in the side of the Pentagon that was hit, luckily he came home.
I was working at my co-op, visteon. I was up on a ladder looking taking some measurements. My boss runs over and yells to me to come down, you could visually tell he was shaken: Boss: "Do you own any guns?" Me: "Oh come on Jim, you know me, of course I do" Boss: "How much ammo do you have?" Me: "Not really sure, probably a hundred rounds or so added all up" Boss: "You need more. You and Jones go out to lunch and go get all the ammo you can afford" Me: "What, why, what's going on?" Boss: "We've been attacked. The Russians blew up some skyscraper in New York" Me: "Do what, are you serious!?" Boss: "Yeah, now you and Adam get going before they all sell out" I met my friend Adam at our desk and we went out lunch. We were talking about what happened but not fully understanding. He had been at his desk so he was able to see reports online, but nothing was quite clear. We walked out and stopped by a TV but too many people were watching and it was too small. We went to lunch and there we could see what happened. We were watching and discussing possible reasons when the other plane came into the screen and hit the second tower. At the time, it seems almost surreal. The rest of the day was in a haze. I spent it at my desk pouring over reports and pictures. A few weeks later we had a visitor. I'm not sure who he was or what company he represented, but he had this story: He knew a lady in one of the towers that got hit. The plane actually went right through her desk. Her and another lady in the same office would go down to the bottom floor for breakfast every morning and make the time up after work, staying late since it was pointless to leave on time because there was so much traffic leaving. They were standing in the lobby getting ready to walk outside when the building shook and massive amounts of debris came crashing to the ground. If they had been caught up at their desk for 5 minutes the plane would have hit them, if they were to have been 5 seconds further along in their walk outside, they would have been killed by debris.
