Just curious as to how many Michigan hunters have found dead deer on their property due to the EHD virus going on in southwest michigan? I have heard of hundreds being found scattered throughout Branch county (where i reside). However, the last time i checked the DNR web-site they listed nowhere near that many. I am just thinking about how good, or bad for that matter, this season may be.
I saw an article today, MI DNR biologist quoted as over 900 reports of dead deer. http://www.archerywire.com/releases/267130
dang thats just so sad for the deer and sad for u hunters over there im about 30 miles east of lansing and hope i never have to deal with that around my area.best of luck to you guys
That really sux that the number is that high already. Typically, many of the EHD and blue tongue diseased deer are not found until bow season opens. I hate to see how many the total runs to this year. Very sad for ya'll.
This is the first time ive ever heard of hitting around here. It's unfortunate to hear they arent typically found until bow season opens.
I'm new to the forum but just wanted to let everyone know that our area in Barry county/North Kalamazoo county has been devastated by this disease. Theyre are pockets of unaffected deer but feww and far between in my experience. Our property alone had 18 deer that I could count in our swamp dead with no outside signs. Our neighbor has 220 acres of corn and saw 40+ carcasses in his field and around his pockets of water, two deer just pretty much stood there drooling as the combine hit them.....so sad...so sad. I just don't know what else to say.
EHD is pretty much everywhere...just a matter of how severe. Lower half of MI and upper edge of IN is getting hit very very hard in places. Our new property we were so pumped for is surrounded by reports....so frustrating to know there is nothing we can do.
yes very sad I too hunt in Barry county. My cousin and had picstures of a big typical 10 point with doulbe split brow tines right up until the middle of Sept. Nothing since. Not sure if he just changed habitsl as big bucks do this time of year or fell to EHD. Have seen very few deer through the first week of the season.
I have a family farm in Branch Co. that I hunt and so far I'm still seeing plenty of deer. I haven't found any dead ones yet but a few of my relatives have.
