From you guys that have experience it, does it always dessimate an entire herd or can it be spotty? I've gotten some bad news about our area and needless to say, I'm concerned.

It doesn't necessarily impact the whole herd. It is transmitted by a midge that breeds in stagnant water much like a mosquito, in a normal year there are few if any cases because there is enough water around, on a dry year like this when the animals are concentrated around these water holes then it can impact a rather large percent of the herd. The good news is, we are getting in to the rainy season and cooler weather. Both of which slow down and stop the spread of the virus

I can be spotty. We had it bad a few years ago....some countys only lost 20-30% of the herd and some countys lost over 90% of the herd.
