Here is a QDMA article on EHD and whether it can be prevented or not. Some great information for any that are planning their mineral site locations or perhaps adding water sources to their properties!!

Great article. Has me thinking what I can do to lessen the impact midges have on my property.

We had EHD in our area a little over 10 years ago and boy did it screw things up. The big boys we were watching disappeared and the deer numbers took a while to come back. Just something else we should be thinking about when managing our lands.

What kind of land improvements did you make to reduce the risk of having another significant outbreak?

Thanks for sharing great read. I'm considering putting water troughs throughout the farm if we have another drought year to see if that will make a difference what do you guys think?

The WDNR favorite - scrape a shallow pond in the dirt with a very gradual slope and no depth to the water - are great midge ponds.
