    What do you guys use/like?

I have been playing around with videopad

    http://www.nchsoftware.com/videopad/index.html

I like the ease of use but have not really used anything else besides windows movie maker.

If I buy software, how is it different, how is it better?

    what do you guys recomend?

Right now I'm just using WMM.. But will probably buy something by this time next year.. We'll see. Interested to see what people's replies are.

Edit: It's late at night and I'm bored so I downloaded the software you're using, I already like it a lot more than WMM, especially since I can edit .mov files without having to change the file type. Thanks!

get rid of wmm. videopad is so much better. it is also free.

It will allow you to choose the format of you video like wmv mp4 avi list goes on.

it also lets you play in reverse at any speed you can crop your videos so much better than wmm.

    you can also reverse sound

it will allow you to have an unlimited number of audio tracks increase sound on them at different points which is useful for introductions between clips to allow you to decrease background music to hear voices.

I really like it. but at the same time, I don't know of any other ones besides WMM. I will not use WMM anymore.

I think I posted a link to it in my OP but if not I'm going to do it again. check it out, its a little different to get use to but I've been playing with it for an hour every night for about a week and it is well worth it.

you have to click the little link that says "Download VideoPad Video Editing Software for Windows"

it's on the left hand side of the screen near the top.

I am going to download that tonight. I am starting from stratch and just downloaded the software that came with my Sony Camera last night and it seems to be some junk.

Will try and play with it a bit this weekend!

    Thanks.

I tinker with Videopad and like it. I got turned onto NCH Software because I use their Wavepad (audio editor) and Mixpad to make my church's radio broadcast. I'm still early into this video editing stuff, but so far I like the Videopad.

There's a bunch of beginner-level video editing software out there. Not having much experience with them I can't give a great recommendation. We use Adobe Premiere and Final Cut Pro on the Mac, but both of those are pro-grade pieces of software.

In my experience when learning a new piece of software your best bet is to find one that has gotten good consumer reviews on various sites. I've head a lot of good about Premiere Elements, Sony Vegas Movie Studio and Pinnacle Studio HD.

I have been using Adobe Premiere Elements for the last couple of years. It's a stripped down version of Premiere. It has been serviceable, but I'm limited on what I can do with it. It can be frustrating to use as well because it is not very intuitive.

I just built a new computer and I'm going to be using Pinnacle Studio HD on it. Once I get comfortable with that if the need dictates and we get to the point where we need more I will upgrade to the Avid suite. Pinnacle should be adequate though. I know the guy who runs a show on the Pursuit Channel and he edits using Pinnacle and his production quality is better than most shows out there with the exeption of the big dogs (Drurys, Bone Collector, Primos, etc.) All those guys are likely running banks of $10K Mac Pros with Final Cut Pro and the full Adobe suite.

If you have time, will you look at the VideoPad and tell us the differences.

I just looked at both suggested programs and after reading their capabilities, I do not see much of a difference, if any. I need the eyes of a pro to look If you would.

    Thanks.

I started with Pinnacle, that had a hard time reading my SONY info from Sony Handycam, was limited on what vid clips i could use, would allow me to use some but not all. SVMSP10 is awesome for me, want to upgrade to a pro version.
