Hey guys, so finally I'm going to put all of my videos to use and need to start editing. I downloaded the latest version of Davinci and was just playing around with it for a bit, but seems to be way above my head right now. Wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction for an easy software to get my feet wet with.. I have a Windows laptop.

Davinci really isn't that bad. I would suggest just diving into it and watching youtube videos. It won't take long and you will be flying through basic edits.

As to beginner programs ... Windows Media Maker is free and should be on your laptop already.

I started with windows movie maker and have since upgrade to Corel. I see something more professional in my future but Corel has been good to me.

Check it out if you get a chance.

PowerDirector has fit me best, I tried a buddy's Adobe...I have Davinci as well...but PowerDirector and me fit better. Things were just where I expected them to be I guess. Still not refined by any stretch of the imagination but pleasantly pleased with the purchase.

Another decent program is Pinnacle Studio 20+ or whatever the new current addition is. I've been using it a lot the last few years, and even though I have Adobe Premier, I still use Pinnacle.

For those of you using Davinci, what are you using for a program to convert the AVCHD files so that it will bring in the audio? Every program I've downloaded will only convert the first 5 minutes of a file, or half of the file if its less then 5 minutes long...

Is there any other free programs out there other then windows movie maker?

I have tried 3 or 4 different editing software's. Biggest problem is taking the extended amount of time to learn it, then use it often enough to retain what you learned. I have much better way to spend my time than learning and trying to remember new software. Only things I would like to be able to do is add a note, add a pointer, circle a single item. Takes hours or learning time to do that so don't bother.
