Let people be what they wanna be called.. If it doesnt hurt or offend you in anyway then why rant about it? If its somebodies hobby then so be it. I understand why your upset but just because some person takes a photo of nature, then adjusts it, cant be that bad. Nothing is getting harmed here...

Hang on. I'm upset? Like someone kicked my dog? No, I'm not upset. I'm having a discussion with other people about others over editing photos and turning them into something that looks nothing like the original.

People falsely believe someone is a good photographer, but its just a mask. Its actually hurting the potential of a lot of photographers. Instead of becoming a better photographer, they are running home and editing their photos so much that they not longer become photos, but images.

Now, when is someone going to send me flowers. I'm upset and need some.

Dave, what you are describing is enhancing your photos, not turning them into something they are not. You're a good photographer.

I made this one just for Dan. I figured since I wasn't actually in Wisconsin to kick his dog, this was the next best thing.

That's actually a good photo. Its crisp and clean. Sure its enhanced, but it doesn't look like my 2 year old spilled water colors all over it.

Apples and oranges? Stickers don't exist. I couldn't send you one even if I liked you and wanted to.

Yeah, you do seem upset. Help me understand how it hurts the potential of other photographers? There is no standard for photography or guidelines to it. Its just what you want to make out of it. Nobody is getting hurt. The people that are the most creative have the most success. Editing photos can enhance the creativity, and like i said, there is nothing on this planet that imposes a person to edit a photo in some software and it surely has nothing to do with the potential of other photographers since everything is fair game. Nice of you to share your opinion on edited photos however.

When I was 18 I thought I knew a lot about people too. Some day, like I did, you'll realize you didn't know as much as you thought.

It hurts the potential of a photographer because they don't become as intimate with their camera, understand the intricacies of lighting, depth, etc as they should. Instead, they use a computer program as a quick fix to cover up their shortfalls. It holds them back.

I would respond to the rest of the post, but I have no idea what you said. :tu:

Seems like you think you hold the golden key to the universe mister. Also, in nature you cant always get the lighting and ideal photography conditions you want, so obviously the use of a software to enhance the photo is no sin. And i wont make this personal, but I did type my last response in English, no reason for you to not be able to comprehend what I was saying or, maybe you just couldnt swallow the fact that I totally disagree with you and your rant about this whole subject and you didnt wanna read what i had to say. Il just leave you alone because after all, your right about everything :tu:

    Dan,

I've never done HDR. But rest assured you have to know settings to get them correctly. Both in the camera and in the puter.

Like Vito mentioned earlier, many of the edit steps are to create it as we see it. Something the camera can't always achieve.

    Here's a couple pure unadulterated(unedited) photos for Dan...featuring the Ruff. I am throwing in a cropped/zoomed one though...just because I didn't upload the original.

I couldn't agree more. I have a cousin who is a professional photographer, has the Photoshop programs, went to college for it, has her own studio, yadda yadda yadda. She is about the laziest person you could ever meet though and it is extremely evident in her photography. Since she's a relative she offered to do my graduation pictures for free which is a hard deal to pass up, but when I got them back 3/4's of them were turned black and white and she changed my eye color to this deep blue when they're actually more of a gun metal grey/weird green mix. Same thing with her wedding photos. She photoshops the crap out of them to make everything look so perfect which I can understand from the bride's standpoint but it's kind of funny when she posts the photos on her website of a couple who I know and the bride has dropped about 25lbs from the time they exchanged vows to the time the picture makes it to the website.

I think all the processing done to the photos ruins the actual moment when the pictures you have to remember it by are altered so bad its only a fraction reality. But hey, she and many other photographers get paid to do it and they'd more than likely be out of a job if they didn't over do it on the editing and you can't blame them for wanting to make some money.
