That is apparently the case... Unless the infected nurse came into contact with the nurse who just became infected. A lot of broken protocols over such a serious disease that we know little about.
Yeah but she isn't supposed to be contagious until she shows symptoms according to the CDC and WHO. So you would think there was no way she would of been exchanging bodily fluids with another nurse after she showed symptoms. The only plausible explanation would be some surface outside the containment area became contaminated and several people touched it and maybe then itched their eye or whatever.
Any truth to the story about the family of 5 outside of Dallas? I read the whole lil town (like600-900 pop) was under quaratine? It was on FB so could be total BS. Tried to find something from a reputable source and came up empty. Nevermind... LOL BS
Ebola might not kill more people than tobacco or bad diets.. but it would only take a couple thousand cases in the USA to absolutely cripple us for a while. (buy your 3M and DuPont stock now! ) The WHO said that ebola cases could skyrocket to 10,000 new cases a week. Obviously that's a worst case prediction but it's a sobering thought. As ebola cases increase in West Africa, the chances of another person shedding the virus strolling off a plane in the USA increases as well.
I'm going with Clorox, JNJ and a few others... Oh, and Hello Cleveland... Bloomberg - Ebola Health Worker Flew Hours Before Reporting Symptoms http://bloom.bg/ZDNBpj ~Bill
Nurses, med techs, housekeeping/cleaning and doctors all work shifts. Assume at least ER, ICU were 'in scope' times number of people treating patient... add family, kids, friends and other incidental contacts (others in the ER) who came in contact post symptoms and prediagnosis and there you go. ~Bill
I don't know if it would be because of that... The stock market in general has tumbled to an 8 month low today.
"Both Dallas health workers had "extensive contact" with Duncan on September 28-30, when he had "extensive production of body fluids" such as vomit and diarrhea, Frieden told reporters in a conference call." I'm not saying Ebola can't be a real threat to America... just that we completely over look already even more serious threats to our society's well being. I have complete faith that the CDC isn't covering something up here. I think the individual nurses may have unknowingly exposed themselves and the hospital made a few lapses in judgement. Quarantine protocols work for these type of outbreaks, they just have to be strictly enforced which is where the problem could arise. That coupled with daily flights coming and going from West Africa.
And... the CDC is back in news. http://www.cbsnews.com/news/ebola-nurse-called-cdc-several-times/ ~Bill
This **** pisses me off!! These country's ask for assistance and good old USA says we'll help every time. Take care of you're own people instead of going else where and bringing diseases back that could kill people in MY country. These people in Africa need to learn what the **** birth control is!!!
My wifes coworker's 4 year old daughter was on the flight from Cleveland to Dallas with this nurse who is infected. Not sure what will happen with this situation now. The little girl is still in Texas. Not sure when she will be allowed back or any other details
The only saving grace is that I firmly believe the chance of infection to others on the plane is minimal. She wasn't vomiting or bleeding. I supposed she could of been sweating but then you still would need to get that on you and then inside a cut, wound, eye, mouth or whatever. Precautions are necessary, but I would have faith that little girl will be fine after this is all over.
From American news because it wasn't the hot topic anymore with Ferguson and elections, etc... Ebola was never much of a threat to our country, so they finally dropped the frenzy/scare. It most certainly hasn't disappeared in Africa just yet. They are turning back the tide of the outbreak finally, but we still have a lot of public health officers afield helping people in West Africa.
