Did someone write that honey was not a natural odor? Next you'll tell me to rinse off the molasses deer corn I bought b/c molasses isn't a natural odor....
Dried apples. Carry them in a zip lock in a pocket in my turkey vest. Quiet, very little odor and is natural, don't fill my hand in case a deer sneaks in on me. I don't sit past 9 or 10 as the camera shows very little if any activity after that. We usually have a problem with deer rubbing on our smaller trees but they haven't even found the apple tree that is loaded this year. Not see many deer or signs either. Not sure what is going on.
I think it's smart to make sure the packaging isn't loud. Outside of that it really doesn't matter. Bird seed, cheese cake, cheese steak, it doesn't matter, hunt the wind. If that deer can smell your sandwich, he's going to smell you. I don't care if you soak in scent shield over night. I know guys who have had to put there cigarette down to shoot a mature buck, and I personally have had a big one get down wind after taking pretty much every scent precaution and it's game over for me. So eat what you want.
The problem is not the eating, it is the cooking in the stand that I have a problem. Trying to keep the sterno lit and trying to not drop a pan. But there is nothing like a grilled ham and cheese sandwich after a boring morning sit. Fresh perked coffee takes the chill off..
