Just wondering what everyone thinks about eating in a stand? I am not talking a five course meal or anything. More like a granola bar, power bar or similar. A buddy of mine doesnt bring anything if he sits all day, cause he thinks it will give him away. What are your thoughts?

I think you'll be alright just as long as you stay away from greasy foods. I take deer jerky, peanut butter sandwich and apples most of the time with a bottle of water. I don't think it bothers them in the least.

if your going to sit all day long, eat. i usually come in for lunch so i don't bring food out with me. i personally never liked eating in the stand, too much noise, movement, and scent, but as i said i usually come in. if i was going to sit all day i'd eat :)

Better not fart or pee all day either then. :p

The day I starve myself all day because of scent is the day I am giving up hunting. That just would not be enjoyable to me. I drink a thermos of coffee for morning sits (it's a tradition for me), I love eating nuts, apples, raisins, etc on stand. If the item I want to eat has a wrapper that makes lots of noise I take it out of the wrapper pre-hunt and put it in something that is quiet.

The key is to play the wind and don't take a bacon double cheeseburger out there you will be fine. Enjoy yourself and have a nice lunch and some snacks. Just my humble opinion.

    Eating During The Rut
To me ,this is a no no,my last meal is supper the night before. When I get up at 5am I have my daily u no what and off I go, I have done this religously for the last 12 years. During the cold we get here which can hit -40 I have had no problem staying warm. Like u said I'll take a homemade granola bar which is very satisfying.
Doing this helps me not need to go to the wash room, in turn keeps me motionless ,plus 60% of the time I shoot or see my best buck during the lunch hours from 11 to 1:30 during the rut . Oh yeah, that granola bar can get very enticing before the lunch hour ,specially when u know it's in your pocket. LOL
Best of luck on your hunts.

I am about the crankiest SOB when I am hungry.
I am not about to willingly starve myself while hunting. If something I want to eat is in too noisy a wrapper, I'll put it in a quieter container.
Trail mix, nutrition bars, apples & granola bars are a staple during hutning season.

How long you talking about being out there? I've taken food with me on a deer hunt, once. It helps that I'm rarely ever further than 30min. from the table, when I come down. I've also never had to #1 or #2 so badly I had to come down. So, your mileage may vary.

i eat in my stand, useally its a slimfast meal bar, they fill you for hours. i may take an apple here or there, quaker oatmeal bars are good also. i hunt all day most of the time unless i get a deer early. you dont need much to satisfy, the hours seem to go so fast

If I know I'm going to be sitting all day, I usually grab like 3 bananas, a granola bar, and a hot chocolate and eat/drink them on the drive to the woods. I figure it gives my body enough calories to keep burning to keep me awake and warm.

Once the action settles down a bit, I usually climb down and sit against my tree, have another snack, and sometimes I'll just completely STRETCH OUT and relax for an hour or so. I've even set my phone alarm on Vibrate and taken some 30 minute power naps on days when I was real drousy. After I'm stretched out and filled up (and emptied out) again I climb back up and get comfy for the rest of the day.

And on a side note, deer season is really about the only time of the year I eat bananas, I eat so many on the drive to the woods (Usually at least 2 or 3) throughout the season that I usually can't bring myself to eat them when the season is over! LOL

    I see.

Only done this, once. Always seem to get it done, without having to do this, though. Tough nut (sitting all day).

I always bring at least a snack and if I'm planning an all day sit I'll carry a couple of PB&J sandwiches and a couple apples. That is the minimum. If I'm hungry I'm gonna fidget and be distracted from my goal.

I should also mention that if you're worried about getting hungry a great way to feel full for 5-6 hours is to make a protein shake. I put a whole banana, 8 oz. skim milk and the protein mix in a blender and put it in the fridge overnight. Drink it while you're driving to your hunting grounds in the morning and it will keep you full for quite sometime. It's also a great way to lose weight but that's another discussion all together.

I bring food with me. For all day sits, I usually bring a sandwich, apple, and/or granola bar. If I'm not doing an all day sit, I usually will just bring a granola bar. I always have water, and I usually will bring a 5 hour energy drink too.......I fall asleep easy when in the stand.

On all day Whitetail hunts, I like the new high protein powerbars and I'll pack some water to quench my thirst. On morning or evening hunts, I take little to no food, maybe a little water.

When archery elk hunting I tend to pack more food in my day pack, since I am burning a lot more calories than on a whitetail stand hunt.
