Hi Everyone, Recently have purchased a dozen of the FMJ shafts in 5mm 300 spine. While building them and installing the inserts, the epoxy didn't work. I did exactly as the directions instructs. I folded the small package in half, cut the dotted line, applied the epoxy to a hard surface and mix thoroughly. Well I did all that and installed the inserts then left the shafts on their sides. After 24 hours the epoxy had not cured. After 48 hours still nothing and finally after 72 hours I pulled the inserts out. I called Easton and they are fixing the situation cuz they're awesome like that! But I just wondered if anyone else experienced something similar?
I use Easton epoxy but I've always had good luck with it. I prefer epoxy because it's less brittle than glue and has a stronger bond. The inserts are the only things I use epoxy for because they're subject to so much impact and abuse. Everything else I use glue. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Epoxy is the way to go for insets. Stay clear of glue. Go to Walmart or a hardware store and get either loktight or gorilla glue two part epoxy ..either will work just fine
For the HIT inserts I will use epoxy. I use glue on my fletching. If Easton recommends this then I have to believe they know better than I do.
Glue gets dry and crispy, use the epoxy. Is it possible that you didn't slice through both sides and only got one part of the mixture? I just got another set of new FMJs a few weeks ago and almost had the same thing happen, had to recut the slice on the second pouch.
No, but that makes me think of something. What if only one side had a part and the other was empty? When I folded the package and squeezed it out it didn't seem like I had a lot of epoxy to work with. Also when I pulled the inserts out, it seemed like it was only one part which was like a lubricant. Hmm. Hard to say now that it's over with. Hopefully today I'll get my package from Easton.
That's very possible. Or maybe the pouch got punctured and it got exposed to air and ruined or something but wouldn't have hardened because it lacked the other part. I don't know much about epoxy but I think something must have happened like that, either way it's nice to hear they are taking care of it.
Been using Fmj for years. I agree with spear. If you cut on dotted line it highly possible you only got one side open. Cut below line and watch it come out. One is clear & the other is off color Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
