I have done it after an ice storm that took out our power for 3 days. But, I turned the main off at the breaker box in the house so I did not backfeed the source. I just powered up the circuits that ran the fridge/freezer and water pump for the boiler.
You have two legs of 110 volts coming into your panel. Half your circuits are all connected to to one 110 volt line and the other half are connected to the other. You can turn all the other breakers off but the line leaving your house is still energized unless you as a minimum throw the main breaker. Its best to pull the meter... that way the power company can visually see you are isolated.
That is why I installed this. http://forums.bowhunting.com/showth...d-up-installing-the-generator-transfer-switch Sent from my SCH-I500 using Tapatalk
It happens all the time here with snow .... it never used to ... but now they close schools when they shouldn't be and when a surprise Lake Effect snow storm kicks in in the middle of the night, they leave them open ... aggravating, to say the least ...
We have one million people without power in Northern Virginia. The brunt of the storm is over, clean up time.
Just got power back an hour or so ago. Had about 6 hours of HIGH winds. Probably 25mph-30mph sustained with gusts substantially higher. I think the local airport recorded gusts in the 40's, but we're at a much higher elevation, so I wouldn't doubt we had gusts in the 50s. No tree loss, and no damage to the house (not even the new deck:D). For those of you not having much damage or experiencing much in the line of rainfall or wind, count yourself fortunate.
I am working in Windham NY today, wet and windy...power is back up and things are ok. Last night I took two patents from Catskill to Albany in the middle of the night and it was scary how quite it was. No wind, no rain, no cars nothing out. The moon came out for a couple hours and and is was balmy...today 2000 feet of elevation difference and its another world.
We close the schools, the roads, City offices, Federal offices, the dog pound... everything... if we even get a heavy frost. Except Walmart stays open.
Checking in from central MD. Lights flickered a bit but still have power. That wind driven rain however really made its way into my apt ceiling so I've got a few wet spots and some drywall needs to be replaced but nothing terrible. I was lucky. People north and east of the storm center had/have it the worst. High tides, rain and a southeast wind means lots of flooding around the Chesapeake bay and NYC
My kid had a soccer tourney this weekend, it has been canceled. The tourney was in Brunswick Ohio, the fields are under water.
Wussies . Sounds like it could be a water polo hybrid type game. Sent from my SCH-I500 using Tapatalk
