i like scent eliminators better than earth scent cover. Mainly because no matter how hard you try nobody will be able to mimic the scent of the earth. and i think a deer would be able to tell the difference from actual earth to chemicals. Not saying they cannot smell all the scent eliminator chemicals, but i just like realism of eliminating scent than to mimic earth scent, and when has there just been a earth scent earth has a bunch of different scents.

I prefer scent killers, mainly because I've read that deer smell BOTH the cover scent and your scent when used. Not just the cover scent.

I don't believe there can be one "earth smell" that applies to every location. I do not think the earth smells the same where I live as it does where you live. Heck, I don't believe the earth smells the same 500 yards from where I live.

I like using the odorless scent killer. If I feel I need to get something more, I look for moss growing on trees or fresh dirt to rub onto my pant legs or wherever. Also, a decaying tree can offer a quick boost as a cover scent. Just rip off some of the decaying bark and rub the stinky stuff on whatever you want.

Honestly, I don't think any of it works. I have spent a lot of $$ over the years on the stuff, believe me. You just can't fool a whitetails nose. Simply hunting with the correct wind in your favor and treestand selection by knowing how to read the woods and how deer will move though the woods is all you need. That, and be in your stand as much as possible as you can't kill anything sitting in a recliner in your house. No rubber boots either, all they are good for is breaking your ankle. Wash your clothes a few times during season in baking soda, cold water, and air dry. The baking soda gets them clean and doesn't add any brighteners and isn't hard on the dyes. Now and then if you are walking through the woods, rub some fallen leaves on you or maybe some pine needles to make you smell a little more like nature. All those wafers, pisses, scent elimanators, cover scents....all a waste of $$ imo. The only true cover scent imo would be skunk gland lure, applied generously. Who wants to smell like a skunk, and a skunk only sprays when there is imminent danger, so that is a red flag to a deer too.

I ain't going to argue with a man who has put the deer the ground that you have. I ll take your word for it, but I just feel better inside using it...doesn't really have to work I guess, I just think it does and it helps me relax!

Scent killer and I stick to my rubber boots. I've had deer cross my tracks numerous times and never been busted or had deer spook with rubber boots. I used to wear clean hunting boots in the earlier years before scent killer was available. Any deer crossing my tracks either blow then turned around and run or tracked me down ( does ). Getting track down by a doe when you are hunting on the ground sucks. The constantly blow the whole time even when the wind is in your favor. Sorry but I don't believe for a second rubber boots are a waste of time.

While I agree with hardcore that it is impossible to beat a deer's nose and you need to hunt with a right wind... since I hunt on the ground... I want to leave the least amount of scent possible for the next hunt in that area. The scent killer does work pretty good in this reguard.

My area is full of Pine. I pack my clean camo in bins with pine. I do use the oderless Spray. To a point I think it helps. But the wind is the number 1 factor.

i think it may help a little bit but its deffinately not 100% or even close. when i use cover scents ill always get the earth scent, maybe that little extra throws them off just enough for them to get closer. Don made a really good point about using skunk urine. idk that i could handle using that but i know quite a few people who use fox urine. not that fox urine smells a whole lot better than skunk but w/e its a thought.

I will take my chances with scent free...even though you hunt the wind 100% what happens when the hot doe takes your dream buck downwind of your perfectly placed stand. Maybe the scent free regimine helps that deer say hold on what is that while I put an arrow through his lungs as opposed to saying that smell is real bad and real close and I am gone. Maybe, maybe not...but I prefer to err to the side of caution.

I tend to agree with Hardcore. I am guilty of using scent wafers but rarely use anything else. I usually put a wafer in my tubs but I think this year I am going to not use any of them. Bottom line is you are not going to fool a whitetails nose. PERIOD! You play the wind and you can save a ton of cash and even that's not a guarantee. I still may use a little Deer Dander on the bottom of my boots because I have had great results with that stuff. But that's it! For those that swear that buck come in downwind and never ever knew anything was up, If it happened everytime when they are not looking or following does then I would be a believer. In other words if that happened anytime but the rut stages when they let their guard down. If peopel think they need it or swear it works then have at it, as long as we all feel confident.
