What, if anything, do you do to combat the skeeters? I see the Thermacell advertised on tv, but from what I've read it gives off smell that I would think the deer pick up on.
I personally haven't used it ,but people on here do and say that they haven't had any problems with deer getting tipped off by using them. Otherwise there are sprays I have used in the past that aren't bad, robinson outdoors makes no stink'n bugs that has cover scent smell to it.
Thermacell. A. They make Thermacell in a "earth scent" now. B. Any spray you put on is going to be worse off the Thermacell ever would be IMO. C. Being able to remain motionless instead of swatting bugs away goes a long way. D. Play the wind.
I've used the Thermacell for 3 or 4 years now without any problems. Yes it does have some odor to it, but I havent found it to spook deer. I have also seen it used during bear hunts. And I think a bears nose is even better than a whitetails. And YES they do work. You can have skeeters all around you and fire up the Thermacell and in less than 10 seconds every one is gone. And they stay away. Here ya go. http://www.bowhunting.com/shopping/search.aspx?keyword=thermacell
ive been using the cell for a couple years now and it work great. talked to a guy today and he said to pick up the earth scented ones. he had deer at 15 feet and didnt get tipped off
i used thermacell last year for the first time, had three different occasions where deer were right underneath me, and didnt get busted out. I know they work... my buddy had to leave his stand early one night because the bugs were so bad, ...I just chilled in my stand all night, comfortable as all hell... he picked one up the next morning.
I have had very good luck with thermocell. Definately get a holder to wrap it up with in stand. Makes early season much better to hunt.
Just wondering how much you actually have to replace the butane and the scent squares? i know the box says 12 hours for butane and 4 for a square. do they last longer or shorter then this?
+1 for thermacell I also have used Sawyers Clothing spray during Turkey Season and I swear by its anti-tick capabilities. My hunting buddy is always pulling ticks off of him and I haven't had one yet. Works well with the skeeters too! It is supposed to be scent free, but I haven't tested that out. One application is supposed to work through multiple washes so I guess after an application washing it with scent-free wash should do the trick.
What do people think of scent blockers "no more stinkin' bugs" ? I am asking because I like to sit all day towards late early season (if that makes sense). and i dont want to have to pay 4 dollars just for a bug free day when i can pay 7 dollars for many days. sorry, dont mean to hijack a thread but it is along the lines of the topic.
