Anyone seeing acorns early this year? Most of the property I hunt is loaded with white/red and chestnut oak. I was out this weekend hanging a few cams and putting stands up and saw quite a few acorns on the ground or heard them falling. All of the ones I saw were green.

    Anyone else seeing this?

I seen the same thing muzzyman. I heard a couple drop last week checking cameras and at first thought it was squirrels but they kept dropping where ever I went. All of mine were green as well. The oaks on my farm are loaded up with acorns also.

They're loaded here too. Haven't seen too many drop yet, but haven't been in woods for about 2 weeks either. This crazy dry weather is sure messing up a lot of things this year

I really hope we aren't losing the mast this year. I have a couple of "money" stand locations that depend on the oaks.

This caught my eye big time...if you have a good oak mast drop spot, it's gonna have to be money this year. Especially if surrounded by some un-irrigated crop fields that basically bombed....got a 70 acre spot that is exactly this. Heading out to check it this coming weekend....we'll see what I find and let you guys know a north-central IN report.

This is my concern. This isn't your normal drop. This is the oaks "kicking" off the acorns as a survival mechanism. They aren't getting enough water to bear their fruit to maturity so they're dropping them early so that they can survive. The hickory and walnut trees around my house are doing the same thing. It's not a good thing to see this early.

I began seeing small green acorns dropping at the end of June. Right now, the crops are looking bad. Large brown spots in the corn, mostly on humps and hills. Some of the corn still looks pretty good in the low spots. I'm hoping that the recent rains we received will help out. My land is mostly oaks, that along with my food plots (5) should make quite the whitetail buffet. That's what I'm hoping for anyway!
