I have been looking at the Mathews brand and I have always liked Mathews, but never had one. I have had Hoyt, Golden Eagle, Parker, PSE, High Country, and Bowtech..I will say the Bowtech has been the best by far..I have been looking at getting away from Binary/dual cams just for the smoothness and simplicity.. I have looked at the Black Ice and I know they shoot great, but I also shot the DXT once and liked it too... Im leaning towards a Mathews for sometime in Feb...what is your position on these bows listed? Rank them in order if so..or gives me good and bad reviews..
I have no experience with any of them but if I were going to get a Mathews the first bow I would be checking out would be the Reezen 7.0 based on different things I have read. That's the only one that really interests me.
why does it interest you Bruce? I hear mixed reviews on it...it's fast yes, but some people say it's loud and had serious hand shock and a a bit of a rough draw.
The 7.0 for the BH and the speed for my heavy arrows. The shorter ATA for blind hunting and spot and stalk. But, the fact is, I can get those things from an Allegiance and a Guardian LOL.
personally, my favorite mathews has been the switchback xt, by far the best mathews i've shot to date... and still probably one of the best single cam hunting rigs i've ever fired...
Both my wife and I have Drenalins and we love them. I've shot the DXT and I thought the Drenalin was smoother, but it could just be that I'm used to it and its comfortable for me. I haven't gotten around to shooting either the Reezen or Hyperlyte yet, but now I'm 2 hours from the nearest dealer. Solid line of bows though. Smooth, quiet, forgiving, faster than I need it to be.
I drew my old XT the other day, and just about pulled the string off it. I forgot how smooth it actully was. I do love my guardian though...to answer the question I like the dxt and drenalin. I like them alot. I cannot comment on the other 2 as I have not shot them.
My humble advice would be to go and shoot all of them and decide on which one fits you and feels most comfortable to you. Let's face it... 99% of all bows made by any well known (and some not so well known) companies are excellent... the rest should come down to personal preference and fit.
I shot the Elite GT500, Bowtech Admiral, Elite Z28, Mathews Reezen 7.0, and the Hoyt Alphamax. I would rank them in the following order for my personal preference. It was the first time I have ever shot a Mathews, and to be honest, I was not impressed. With all the hype I just expected more I guess. It was not as near as smooth or quiet as the Bowtech Admiral. I haven't shot the Black Ice, but if it is anything like the Admiral it would feel much better to me than the Reezen. But as you know, it may be a better fit for you who knows.
I myself have a DXT and I love it light weight, smooth draw, its just an awesome bow I.M.O. I hvaen't had any problems with the bow either!!
Depends on what you're after in a bow. Smooth for treestand: Drenalin (longer axle to axle, smooth draw, good stability, barely heavier than DXT) Smooth for blind: DXT (Impressive shooter for its small size, compact, easy to carry, buttery smooth draw with decent speed.) Smooth for hiking: Hyperlight (has more hand shock than DXT and a bit more weight but otherwise the same as DXT w/o roller guard) Fast for treestand: Reezen (More harsh draw than the others but substantial speed increase to go with it, rock steady hold at full draw, comfortable shot.) For the average North American bowhunter I'm thinking the Drenalin is probably the best choice of the four but that's just me.
Personally, I didn't care for the Reezen. I had a DXT last year, great bow just a little to short and light for me. This year I got a S2 (08-09 version of the original switchback), not a speed demon but it's very easy to shoot accurately. Haven't shot a Dren so can't comment on that.
I don't think anyone would be able to say which is best for you. Go shoot them draw them with your eyes closed. Go on feel. You won't go wrong with any of them.
VA, I'll be as honest as I possibly can. I shot the Monster and the Reezen without stabilizers or dampeners. I literally shot them both and walked away, It felt like I was holding onto a rattlesnake tail. It was absolutely horrid. I can't tell you what to get, but I can tell you what I would stay away from. Good luck.
I felt that way comparing the then-new Drenalin to the Switchback XT... thought the Drenalin pretty much sucked...
well I just wanted to get an idea of what you guys thought...I won't shoot anything until after the season..either way, Im not parting with my Bowtech Ally! I love it, but I would like to have two bows, one with a single cam, hell Im still not forgetting the ol Black Ice either..
mathews Trey out the reezen and the monster by mathews they both shoot great my opinion mathews best of the best
