Never heard of this tactic and it would not interest me, just seems a little odd. But if you do go ahead with it be sure to post some pics and let us all know how it turns out!
Will the dummy have Scent Lok on to prevent him from being windedIn all seriousness, why not keep a doe or buck decoy under a tarp and create a diversion instead of worrying about who or what is in the stand. As Bruce said, movement is what mainly causes deer to bolt so keep them focused on the ground
Hunter Dan blow up dolls, fooling the deer all year long so you won't have to when it matters most. I think I have a new company idea. :D
This is not the first dummy related tactic I've heard conconcted. This is the first time I've heard it proposed to simulate a hunter in a stand intended to be hunted though. I once read an article about a guy that was hunting a large block of timber that had no real features or funnels to channel the deer past him. So he made a V of stands that were wide coming out of the bedding area and he was at the point of the V. In each which was only about 8 feet off the ground he put a dummy in old solid blaze orange outfits and put dirty socks and aftershave on them. Then he went home, showered and went back to his stand. The deer came out of the bedding area and in an effort to avoid the other "hunters" were funneled right to him. I read this story in Outdoor Life about 20 years ago.
You just reminded me of a video I had seen years ago called hanging out the laundry. The guy was hanging his dirty towels and socks out in effort to funnel Deer his way.
