Well done Duke... keep it rolling. I'll know what to look for in about 3 weeks whenever our deer start losing their headgear.
And the sheds come flowing in. Man do these threads get me pumped. If all goes as planned, I am heading out tomorrow. Keep up the good work Duke!
logged fifteen miles today and not a horn starting to doubt my eyes a little ........years count 1/5/09 match set in the bed 9 pt. 150 " same day a 45inch. 4 pt. side and plus a 150" eight point dead in the creek.......... a 110" 6 pt. road kill. and still searching for the mack daddy of em all.....
Feb 13th.. went on a little shed journey with the legend himself.. Peakrut. Able to find my first freshies of the year.. a match set I found about 200 yards apart. Little guy. Peak even joined in on the fun and found about 9" off a busted beam.. and a dollar? Here's I with the GIANT matched set. Less impressive than BC's. And a good one of Peak.. drinkin' his diet soda and balancing on a log going over a creek. Diet soda seems to be this mans vice.
Looks like Peak was fighting those "Milwaukee Waves" crossing the creek. Good job Duke. Matching set is a matching set! I hope I can find one of those this year. The ATL photo of one of those guys was nestled in the leaves pretty nicely.
Oh man I had no idea you had taken a pic of me crossing that creek. Good time I had Mike for sure. It is only going to get better in a couple weeks. Road Trip dude!
Dukster, Take care of my boy>>> Peako Nice finds Duke, the first freshies of the year and a matched set at that Peak, whats up with the small fingers dude?? I thought you had a mans hands j/k
Nice finds Duke. Got any full shots of the 6 point side? That looks to be a serious brow tine. How much snow did you guys get over the weekend? When I got back from Oklahoma I was happy we only has a light dusting.
Good question.. While 2 or 3 of the kills were likely works of the automobile.. ..another 1 or 2 probably by hunters who lost their game.. I think predation has the biggest increase. Every year I find greater numbers of dead deer.. and every year I encounter and see MUCH greater numbers of predators (the yote). Sick, wounded, old and young deer can have a tough time when there's prolonged snow falls on the ground.. the yotes pounce on them.. especially the young ones which make up the bulk of the kills it seems. We have some BIG yotes around here.. I heard from a trapper it's caused by the breeding of domestic dogs with the yotes.. whether or not that's true I don't know.. but some of the yotes I've seen over the past few years push 60 pounds or more.. that's a BIG yote.
Balls - we got 4+ inches up here on Friday night, which killed our shed hunting last weekend. So we took some time off to hang with the wives and make them happy in preparation for the next 4 week frenzy of walking until we have blisters on every toe. And I think Mike's correct - there's more and more yotes around here every year, and I'm sure the record snowfall and then subzero temps in December then January didn't help much either. Fortunately it's been rather mild for the past month or so which hopefully saved a few deer.
I hear you on the sheddin' frenzy. I am pretty much going through withdrawals since coming back from Oklahoma. I need to get out to shed hunt soon again, it is becoming a nasty habit. Plus I still have a few new set of woods to walk to get the FIRST hand look for scouting the small but promising woodlots.
