When does everyone's season get rolling? We don't start until Oct 31st, but I probably won't start hunting till mid Dec. It all depends on whether or not I have a buck down. Anyone else have a split season? This is how it falls for anyone in the "North Zone" October 31-November 29, 2009 and December 12-January 24, 2010 Good luck this season
My two best friends weren't able to wait for our Thanksgiving opener here in KY.....so they moved to North Dakota 2 weeks ago to duck hunt until our season comes in here. Come home to a Thanksgiving feast and duck season from 2 full months of nothing but duck hunting every day. They are semi hardcore about it...:D
I'd say so. How do they afford it? It's an expensive sport already without moving to a different state. Did they get jobs up there?
I get to shoot some on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, then it goes out again till the end of Nov. I love it, and hunt nearly everyday, as long as I can afford shells I make it out, rain, snow, sleet, and freezing salt water, I love it. I just wish we had more mallards, everything here is Woodies, some teal, and plenty of Mergansers and Buffleheads, but because we sacrifice the mallards numbers we get the sounds ducks like Bluebills, Pintails, Canvasbacks, Redheads, Plenty of ducks out in the salt marsh. Now you got me all wound up on it and bitin at the bit for Wednesday to get here.
Come on, I cant promise ya anything right now, but wait til late season and I can put you on some ducks if ya really want to
Where are you? When? and probably only on the weekends...I don't know yet. I am actually in the parking lot out in front of my new-ish job. I guess the Branch Manager wants to interview me now. I'm not sure why. They didn't explain. Just said to be here. It's been a while, but I don't think this is one of those things that you loose. I've got everything but the boat. What do you guys use for decoys down here? I've actually got about 3 dozen blue bills. lol. My uncle gave them to me before we came out here.
I should have been on my way to North Dakota wednesday but I didnt have enough money so we cancelled the trip. It is supposed to be an awesome season there too. Our season opens Nov. 1st. I can't wait.
Well, in the late season I could really use those 3 dz bluebills, the more the better and this make for a higher limit, and I should have a boat by then, if not I will have someones to use and if there is a spot your more than welcome to come. New river NC gets flooded with bluebills around the end of Dec. and first of Jan. Send me a PM with your number and Ill get up with ya somehow to go during the late season. Last year there were an estimated 18,000 bills in New river, and over 40,000 ducks total (redheads, canvasbacks, buffies, mergansers, and a few puddlers) so that should give you something to look forward to.
We've been killin ducks for 2 weeks here. Got out tonight and with the cooler weather moving in, there are a lot more ducks coming down. A lot more mallards, should be a good weekend/week to smack em
The duck hunting has really taking a turn for the worst here from what It use to be like here In central Minnesota. Ever since the Dakota's had the big Spring flood from the snow melting 7 to 8 years ago the ducks seemed to have moved their flyway farther west with all the water out there. Also with the floods this Spring out their again the duck hunting has really sucked again, even worse. I use to really get Into duck hunting when It opened here the 1st week of October. Your best shot now Is just the 1st week around here and It seems eveythings gone after that. I didn't buy a duck stamp this year and by the sounds of It from my brother who was out for the opener I made a good choice not to. Most of the ducks are gone already.
5 woodies between three of us this morning, only saw 10 ducks though (9 woodies and a mallard) Out for another month or so here now.
:D You are a funny man, condescending at that! Actually, quite the opposite (not that you would believe that). They could, just are very adamant about being independent. They worked 50-60 hour weeks all summer saving money (about $1500 each), and moved up. The original plan was to get a job there, but they don't pay rent (living in a family friends camper) and the only expense really is shells and food). $1500 is more than enough for two months of that. They plan to just hunt and get another job when they return back to KY. Duck hunting is as cheap or expensive as you make it. Hunting the prairie state potholes requires little to no decoys (they borrowed my 2 dozen for the trip), and they already had their calls/waders/other basic gear from hunting around home. It CAN be VERY expensive but you can get by without breaking the bank.
