I don't own a single piece of buck commander/duck commander/duck dynasty apparal. I watch the reruns of the show and support their message...and that's about it.

I take that back...I had a shirt that shrunk terribly the first time I washed it and I think my cheapo Walmart sunglasses may be DD brand...

Dude...you just compared an 80 employee company with McDonalds LOL

I understand the point you are trying to make though.

I really don't know anything about the calls they make...or duck calls in general

Put it In perspective for us hunters...an 80 person outfit in this industry is pretty big (not the biggest though, obviously).

Duck Commander calls have ALWAYS been bottom shelf. But, they were brilliant in making them relevant. Marketing genius. I guarantee that there will be marketing professors use them as an example for many years to come. Somewhere there is a thesis being written about them right now.

To be clear. Their calls were always junk. And, just to preface my comments.....I used to buy their vidoes when they were on VHS and they had a mortgage on an old trailer house.

I've heard the same. Is this true for the $180 calls?

Looking at them on line, they have the same acrylic ends that my nephews use.

I'm curious if they purchase the reeds as well or if they are hand made.

I can say this, if someone gets a chance to buy a Hess call, buy it. He passed away about 3 years ago and his calls were top shelf. (He was the one I referred to earlier that made his calls in the shop I work in) they were truly hand made. He basically invented the short reed goose call.

Glad to see other people have caught on. Living in Monroe I knew DC was a joke before Duck Dynasty even started.. It's almost an embarrassment. Yes Willie is a marketing genius but sometimes he doesn't practice what the show preaches.. Rant over.

I don't know about the high-priced stuff, but can assume the same. I just know that back in the day, they made cheap crap. I did enjoy the videos before they were big though.

Their "act" was the same 15 years ago when they had no brand to market.... Food for thought.

Willy found a way to market who they were and scripted activities for the show to expose that. It spread like wildfire. While yes they are acting through the show, it doesn't mean they are making up WHO they are as well....

Not to mention at least 1 forum member has met more than once the original Duck Commander and says he is the "real deal".

As far as Duck Dynasty, it's a TV show for entertainment and marketing of a product but I don't believe they are portraying a lifestyle they don't live or believe in. Basically what Tembry said..

And there is one member on this very pages that states one(Willie) is not the real deal.

Was it one of the Duck Commander videos where one shoots a deer running across a swamp while they were duck hunting? The kill was legal, if I recall the deer did like a flip, was that them?

My nephews did run into them a few years ago before DD hunting down at sauerheber refuge area by my house. They did have their videos out at the time. They claim what you see is the real deal. My nephews asked them what they were doing here and they said they had heard about this area their whole life and wanted too see for themselves.

    Yes that was their video.

Willie is all about the company, marketing, and business and that is pretty much exactly what is portrayed on the show, in fact just about all of his family ridicules him for his "yuppy" ways.

Hook didn't say he wasn't the real deal, just not rednecky.
