Dry Fire Shot my PSE Bow today. 1st shot, heard a thump or thang - whatever, the peep jumped out, the arrow was hanging in the biscuit. I have never dry fired a Bow in my life. Wonder if this was a dry fire, and why it happened. My question: what could happen in a dry fire? What damage could be done? I continued to shoot it without the peep, shot good groups at 20 yds, about 4", good for me. Should I just figure its OK and get the peep put back in and forget about it, or what? Can the PSE Bows take a dry fire? Thanks for any help or comments.
Did the nock break on the arrow you had on the string? You took a chance still shooting it after that happened. It is probably ok but I'd have it checked. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I'd suggest a thorough inspection of the cams and limbs especially, and/or have a shop give it a quick look over.
my buddy dry fired my bow 2 years ago and you could clearly tell that is was dry fired. The cam was stripped and the bow string was barely in the groove on the cam. He was lucky he didnt get whipped in the face or anything. I would just take it to your nearest pro shop and let them take a look just to be sure.
A dry fire is when you fire the bow at full draw WITHOUT an arrow on the string.. I am confused by why the arrow only got stuck 1/2 way thru the biscuit unless it was on and somehow cracked and came off during the cycle. Would definately have a shop look at the bow.. Bad things happen to limbs (not on ALL bows) and other damage could occur when dry fired...
You may want to check your D-Loop if you are shooting one. See if it gives enough room for the nock on the arrow for your release. I had a similar situation when I put a new string on my diamond. When I drew back it wanted to pop the arrow off. I continued to try and when I shot it popped extremely loud and my arrow only went half way through the whisker also.
I've never had a dry fire but a string broke at full draw on my last year and I can assure you this, have it checked out, I wouldn't wish that pain on anyone. I still get jumpy sometimes while shooting after that. Have scars so I'll never forget it.
That sounds just what happened to me. I have had my Bow checked out at a Pro Shop and everything was OK. I will check that D Loop next time I shoot. Thanks for all the help and replys.
