So I took a trip back to the "Motherland" Michigan UP Drummond Island for a week whitetail hunting. I had heard from my cousins which work on the island that the bear population has grown considerably since I was able to attend back in 2011. They were right. On Wednesday October 22nd I watched a sow and three cubs (rare) come into my bait pile to eat apples. The sow was close to 400lbs by my guess (I could be wrong due to the fact I was shaking in my boots). I'll admit it was a cool experience but it also sucks because your hunt's pretty much ruined.

I heard that Drummond Island voted to only allow 2 tags per season for bears (compared to 15+) to allow populations to grow. Their reasoning was for summer tourism to see bear. Anyone else having any issues with bear or should I just bring a picnic basket with me and enjoy the ride?
