What do all ya'lls think of Florida's new law that requires drug testing for welfare recipients? (18 and over) The law also requires drug tests for state employees.

    About time?

    Violation of the Fourth Amendment?

I know the panty-waist liberals here will hate it. :p

I see no problem with requiring welfare recipients to pass a drug test. There was a facebook page devoted to this a while back and the liberals were all over it whining about privacy rights. I feel that the second you start receiving taxpayer money that you should be held to whatever terms are enacted. If they don't want to take the test they can always go out and get a damn job to buy their drugs instead of taking my hard earned cash:tu:

I have been preaching that for years! Good for them. Now we will see how that plays out in real life, sometimes enforcing these things doesn't always go well.

You know you and I don't always see eye to eye, but I am starting to think it was a simple failure to communicate for all these years.

You have been dead on correct for the past 2 days. almost scary

Ok, what am I thinking right now?

No infringement on rights that I can see. No one is forcing them to take the test. It is just a requirement to receive free money. No test, no free money, no infringement on rights. If a person chooses to take the free money then they are choosing to submit to a drug test. Freedom of choice ;) .

As far as state employees being required it is my opinion that any employer, if they want to as a condition of employment, should be able to require submission to random testing. I do think that that should mean from top to bottom though, from governor to clerk, from CEO to janitor.

Can't argue with anything that has been said here. Totally agree this should be a requirement.

This should of have been done a long time ago. You have to take a drug test to get a job, you should have to if you are going to sit around and wait for someone else to support you.

It's been a way of life for too many people for way to long. Now it's like a family business the kids and grand kids are on it to. I have no problem with drug testing or madatory school or job hunting also.

Drug testing, money can only be spent in certain stores on certain items within a certain mile radius of where recipient lives and in own state. If a balance still exists on the debit card at the end of the month, it returns to the coffers.

Yes I agree that they should get tested. And I also agree with Bruce, test from top to bottom.

So what if they fail the test?

That news is simply Awsome...head to your nearest Kroger around Atlanta and you will be approached by someone telling you to give them 50 dollars cash for 200 dollars in groceries. It is crazy, there will be 10 or 15 people at a time waving their government debit cards. Welfare is for people to get back on their feet when things go really bad, too many have made it a way of life for far too long.

The crime rates in certain areas are going to rise for a bit after these tests become the norm.

Not only should be tested, but should be required to submit receipts totaling the amount of last months check in order to receive this months money. Make them prove what every penny is spent on.

This has been going around for awhile now .. a letter to the editor somewhere.

This was in my local paper letters to the editor tonight. What do you think?

Like a lot of folks in this state, I have a job, I work, and they pay me. I pay my taxes and the government distributes my taxes as it sees fit. For most jobs people are required to pass a random urine test with which I, and most people, have no problem. What I do have a problem with is the distribution of my taxes to people who don't have to pass a urine test.

Shouldn't one have to pass a urine test to get a welfare check, because most of us working people have to pass one to earn a paycheck? Please understand, I have no problem with helping people get back on their feet. I do, on the other hand, have a problem with helping someone sitting on their duff, doing drugs, while I work. Can you imagine how much money the state would save if people had to pass a urine test to get a public assistance check?

If you agree with this, write your representative or congressperson and throw out the idea. Something has to change in this country and soon. I guess we could title the program, "Urine or You're Out." Just a thought.

All for it if they put teeth into it. Come back positive and lose your benefits for life. Problem would be everyone migrating to states that do not have the law to avoid the testing. As for state, federal and municipal employees, I'm all for that too.
