Sounds like there's alot of hunters on here that have been on some good trips. My dad and I have been talking about doing a drop in carribou hunt for either Quebec Laborador, or Baron Ground carribou. Just wondering if anyone here has been on one recently or knows of a good service with reference.
I'm a little confused. By drop camp do you mean one of the 6x1 guided camps where you have one guide in camp but basically hunt on your own, or do you mean a true DIY hunt without a guide at all? In Canada, you are required to have a guide, so if you want no guide at all you'll have to head to Alaska. If you are going to Quebec, from what I have heard, Jack Humes is far and above the best outfit going and an honest man at that. Pretty expensive trip though. A dream of mine either way, good luck with finding out where to go.
Yes you would have a camp guide but you would hunt, handle meat, cook, ect. on you're own. I've heard it was affordable like that. whats pretty expensive? Also does Jack Humes have a web sight?
Quebec is just an expensive hunt no matter how you go about it. I've heard it is worth it, but $6k not including travel is steep. http://www.jackhumeadventures.com/c-4-caribou-hunting-packages.aspx Most outfitters are expensive as he is, but I have just heard he is far and away the best of the best...I've never hunted up there personally. Alaska is a much cheaper option, but from what I have heard/read more hit/miss on whether you are in the caribou or not. If you hit them right, they are EVERYWHERE, miss them by a day, and you are in for a long camping trip. lol If I go, I am going back to Alaska! Check out some outfitters offering drop camps in AK, much more affordable than a canadian hunt.
Thanx for the advice. I'll check into it. Sure would have thought Alaska would be more. Good to know.
