I'm just getting into bow hunting and having an issue with my arrows getting hung up on my drop away rest. Wonder if anybody else has had this problem? It's a Trophy Taker rest.

    Thanks

What exactly do you mean by hung up on the rest? Are they hitting it during the shot or something else. The drop may not be timmed right.

    Need more info.

When I draw the arrow back, it sometimes does not rest in the bottom center of the rest. Sometimes it will get hung up on the felt fabric of the rest.

It usually happens when I've been shooting a lot and getting tired.

Sometimes if I don't catch it before I release the shot it'll go way off target. A little scary:eek:

This sounds like nock pinch to me.

Check to see how your arrow nock fits into your string loop. I bet it is to tight, this will cause your arrow to lift up while drawing your bow.

You may just need to have a new string loop tied on with a little bit more room for your nock.

Thanks, I did that and it did work better for a while but now it's grabbing the nock again.
Maybe I just need to spread out the loop some more. Do they make something to go between the loop so it can't pinch together over time?

It's just real scary when it happens and your not paying attention.
Good thing I put the plywood behind my target.

When you say "hung up" what do you mean specifically?

You can tie in nock sets and then tie your loop on (I always tie in nock sets with my bows). With tied in nocks sets your loop cannot cause nock pinch.

When I draw back the bow and and the drop away rest comes up, the arrow is rides the left side of the riser and then drops down into the groove, most of the time but, sometimes it hangs up stays on the left side a little.

I've made a habit of looking each time to see if it hung up but it's just one more thing to remember to do.

Like Buckeye said above I think the loop is pinching the nock.

Cool Thanks, I've never heard of that but will look into it.

I thought I was maybe torquing the bow too much when I drew back.

I had this problem when I first started shooting. I don't know why I thought about doing this but it worked. My "D" loop was sliding together and pinching my nock. I was using a spring style rest and when i would draw back the arrow would lift up and if I tilted the bow at all and sometimes if I didn't, the arrow would fall off the rest. One day it hit me, glue it. I thought about this for a while and I realized that most glue causes some sort of negative damage. I have had strings break and this is not something I wanted to happen again if I could help it. My wife was painting her nails with clear nail polish and thats when I decided to try to use it. It hardens and is kind of like a glue. If it wont hurt a womans skin it shouldn't hurt a bow string right. I soaked the knots on the "D" loop with it. That was about 2,000 shots ago and it hasn't pinched the nock since.

That sounds like a good idea.

I had been shooting with 4'' vain's on my arrows and just changed to 2'' and it seems to have solved the problem.
The 4'' vain's were hitting the fall away rest when it came up initially and I think they were pushing the arrow over. Usually the arrow would drop back down into the groove but sometimes it wouldn't and would stay hung up on the rest.

    So far so good.
