Yes...Great way to hunt mid day or late season, 3 or 4 guys doing still hunting/slow pushes working with the wind. We used to kill a lot of deer this way in southern IL on flooded public ground. Very fun hunting just practice running or slow moving shots BHOD...

Ive seen Lucas on WKP kill a good buck doing this....I believe his dad walked upwind of a bedding area and let his scent push the deer out through a pinch where Lucas was waiting.

I've done it before. Had a few close calls.

Check your regs first. It is illegal in Illinois to participate in a deer drive on public ground.

How do you practice running or slow moving shots with a bow? Either way, I wouldn't shoot at a running deer under any circumstance with a bow. Waaay too risky.

I could see how it would be effective but its not for me. Part of the reason why I love to bow hunt is to catch them with their pants down and not let them know they are being hunted. Also the closest I will come to shooting at a moving deer is the flying pig target at my local 3D range :)

I would love to see all of the hunters around me do deer drives. :tu:

I think it would be just as hard to get them stopped as it would be to get them within bow range. Not saying it could not be done, but the reason this is not a go-to tactic is because the risk of spooking deer off the property and wounding deer is too great.

A friend of mine gets a group of guys together every Saturday during NJ early season to put on drives and they are very successful doing so. He has invited me many times but I just couldn't get interested in it.

my Father in law and his buddies do several drives a season and are successful at it. I personally hate it, I tried it one time and I felt like I was forcing the deer out of it's natural habitat directly into danger, which I wasn't comfortable with. that's my personal opinion...to each his own. it can be done and have great results.

At 5 to 10 yards is about my max on a deer and 15 on a coyote. Like I said we would hunt flooded ground or islands so 90% of the wildlife would want to escape down land bridges that were build by the army core of engineers in the 70s. These flood control land bridges are about ten yards wide ( a 2 track). The other 10% were giant Bucks that would swim the rivers to avoid the still hunters and escape right into Kentucky. Yes I think the laws have changed since then in Illinois this was a long time ago.

I used to do this when I hunted with my son. We hunted a long shelter belt. When it was time to get out of the stands I'd leave my stand first and walk the belt towards him as he stayed in stand till I got to him. Usually 1/4 to 1/2 mile. He usually had deer pass by but never had the big boys he was looking for come by. We always thought it was effective.
