These articles are directed more towards the impacts on teen drivers but it's still scary especially considering adults below the age of 40 are probably equally guilty of doing this. In the "Road Soadies" thread many mentioned that this kind of thing scared them more than DUI. Turns out that could be a legitimate fear as some studies show texting & driving to be up to 6x more dangerous than DUI. Anyway I have a teen driver I'll be sharing this info with but who(other than me) has been guilty of texting or smartphoning while driving. You don't have to be texting to be distracted i.e getting directions, looking up a phone number, movie time, hunting app, etc.?

I was guilty of a few txt's here and there while driving in the past. About 2 weeks ago I was sending a txt on a main road and realized I was halfway in the opposite lane, scared the crap out of me. I vowed never to do it again. Lesson learned, luckily I got the second chance.

I used to have to drive long distanecs for work as a teenager, Id be going around corners 80 mph on the highway texting girls. Good thing I never crashed. I dont do stupid things like this anymore including drinking and driving. I also get kicked out if I get a DUI so all the more reason.

Ive probably sent 40-50,000 texts while driving over the last 6 years. And thats at an average of 18 texts while driving per day (very low ball). It is what it is.

Check my driving record...cleaner then a whistle.

I used to be that way. With my old phone, I could send texts without even looking at the screen. But with the iPhone, I just hit the little microphone button and say what I want to text. Now that's just plain convenient right there.

I have a 4s, so I don't know about the 4. It's the bottom left corner, second one from the left side.

You're right. It is what it is.......stupid. That's like saying you drink and drive all the time and haven't been caught so it's okay. Good grief.

    ....Paramedic.

Anyways, i just transported a 17 year old female on Tuesday that was texting and driving, hit gravel, got sucked into the ditch and flipped her SUV. She didnt have texting and driving skills.

Neither do you or me for that matter. Not judging you or being a prick because I am guilty of texting or using my phone as well. What I mean is just because you haven't had an accident probably has more to do with good fortune than skill. Think back over your 50,000 texts, do you ever remember looking up and being across the line or through a yield sign or something similiar. Being a good driver is more about defensive driving than anything and I'm honest enough to admit that if my eyes and attention aren't on the road and the other vehicles/people around me then I am lucky I haven't got in an accident...not skilled.
