I honestly never thought that anyone would drink before or during hunting. Not to mention the safety needed when handling any type of weapon, and being up in the air, I want my instincts and judgement to be as sharp as they can be.

Now, after the hunt, a ceremonial deer beer is an entirely different subject.

I hear it happens pretty often with people drinking in stand.

I meant with a firearm. I dont know about VA, but in Missouri, any kind of alcohol in your system with a firearm in possession with ammunition = felony hunting or not.

Personally I dont care if you hurt yourself drinking, it's the risk you pose to others that I worry about

I loved the fact that Missouri passed that law last year but don't think it was enforced . Although I will drink 1 beer while in my bow stand on occasion , firearms season is when my family is finally hunting with me and no alcohol is ever involved .

I assumed this discussion was about bow season ...... we are on bowhunting.com :)

Had no idea it was recent, I just moved here, and I will be moving out again soon. I do love Missouri with their gun laws, however, with that possible felony, I sure don't risk it.

I never heard any of the conservation agents talking about the enforcement of that law , being the first year they might have passed out a lot of firm warnings .

We own a convenience store in the north central part of the state and I've never understood beer being our bestseller during firearms season .

I do agree that when you have that many hunters in the woods with guns , alcohol should never be involved .

When we kill a deer we celebrate with beer. Tradition especially in many deer camps!

Saw this T- Shirt at a Cracker Barrell... and I of course, thought of some of you guys. These fellas were really very nice and working the Deer Hunting Expo in Birmingham. They are selling a mount for game cams that can be placed anywhere.

Not for me. I've always been against it. People make bad decisions while drinking or on drugs. Then an accident happens and makes us all look bad. Because the anti - hunters think we'll if he drinks while hunting then everyone must. That's all we need more fuel for their fire. Celebratory brew though, can't pop a top fast enough.
