I should know this. But, I'm trying to save myself some anguish. Is there a drill bit that'll allow me to drill (with my cordless Bosch) through 1/4" angle iron? I need to install a new mailbox. I "can" shoot the box to a 5/4" board and then attach the 5/4" to the base with slotted flat iron. But, I'd rather connect - direct. Thanks.
Would this work? http://www.lowes.com/pd_177078-353-TI2147_4294857551+4294867362_4294937087_?productId=1050983&Ns=p_product_prd_lis_ord_nbr|0||p_product_quantity_sold|1&pl=1¤tURL=%2Fpl_General%2BPurpose_4294857551%2B4294867362_4294937087_%3FNs%3Dp_product_prd_lis_ord_nbr%7C0%7C%7Cp_product_quantity_sold%7C1&facetInfo=General Purpose
Should work okay Jeff, just keep the RPM's down, and if you run into trouble, you might want to dribble a little oil in as you're drilling.
Jeff you will save yourself alot of anguish if you just drill a pilot hole first, 1/16" pilot will be good for 1/4"
When I need to drill through bar joist or heavy angle iron I use a hex head or a tec 5 hex head. It saves on the cost of drill bits.
